"Savage Pencil was one of the new talents that were introduced by Escape magazine in the UK. He is part of the punk-generation in comics. With his appearances in Escape and various other magazines, he quickly became one of the leading names in British underground comics. His jagged and spontaneous style accurately captured the spirit of punk. His most famous work, 'Red Hot Jazz', has inspired many fellow underground artists."

There's a lot to say on this guy, so rather then type it I'll paste a brief bio that seems to cover it very well from http://www.comic-art.com/bios-1/crumb001.htm "Robert Crumb was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 30, 1943. Though he never studied art nor had any formal teaching, he began drawing at an early age. While still in his early teens, he and his brother drew single issue comics for fun. Among these was "Fritz the Cat" which Robert would later draw for Harvey Kurtzman's "Help" magazine. In 1962, Crumb's family moved to Cleveland and Robert went to work for the American Greeting Card Company. He married his first wife, Dana, in 1964 and began doing work…

The BLF Manifesto In the beginning was the Ad. The Ad was brought to the consumer by the Advertiser. Desire, self worth, self image, ambition, hope; all find their genesis in the Ad. Through the Ad and the intent of the Advertiser we form our ideas and learn the myths that make us into what we are as a people. That this method of self definition displaced the earlier methods is beyond debate. It is now clear that the Ad holds the most esteemed position in our cosmology. * Advertising suffuses all corners of our waking lives; it so permeates our consciousness that even our dreams are often indistinguishable from a rapid succession of TV commercials. * Differe…

"For over a thousand years, respected admired and feared by strangers, the art of moko is kept alive as an integral part of the cultural identity of the Maori. In the traditional form of moko, teeth or albatross bone was used to carve into the skin and then the dye forced into the cut flesh with a flat edged blade. This created not only a tattoo but a chiseled scar. Both the chiselled and the flat blade, the Carui gum and the wooden mallet have been replaced by the mihini moko, the tattoo machine. Ta Moko was like a history of a person's achievements and represented their status in their tribe. It was applied to the face and buttocks of men, and to the chin, lip…

repost? taken from http://www.woostercollective.com and http://www.enrager.net/hosted/arofish/ anyway, so this dude went out there to paint. when asked how wasy was it to get across into "war territory"? "Getting into Iraq was, as we say this side of the pond, a piece of piss (i.e. easily accomplished). For all the blather about security, the war on terrrrrrrrr, the patriot act at your end, the increase in police powers and surveillance at mine, etc (all the bullshit on our homeland(s), in short) - for 12 dollars and a night bus you can go from Amman to Baghdad with minimum fuss. Roadside bombs and kidnappings permitting. That was the way it was a few mont…

I've been selling artwork for awhile now, not really to make a living but more like a drawing here, a canvas there. It was never really about the money but, From my experience I've had to hustle a little or get burned when payment time came around. And it's like I'm asking a lot. I'd like to know how some of you work your business into your artwork.

http://www.gawker.com/topic/terminal-5-dru...ters-022872.php Terminal 5: 'Drunken, Coked-Out Hipsters' The abrupt closure of the Terminal 5 art exhibit due to vandalism has us wondering what sort of mayhem we missed at last Friday's opening. A reader informs us of the besotted belligerence: As a guest at the party, I can tell you that I saw kids tagging up the venue, there were NUMEROUS attempts of people trying to steal things (which they're not publicizing at all... a few major art pieces did get stolen), and a group of kids kicked in a door in the basement, found some old key/supply rooms, took stuff, and some really intrepid explorers found a door that …

hi. 1st off. good job on the site redesign. i haven't made a thread in a long ass time and the other ones i made probably weren't any good. but i recently was referred by a friend to paint some walls in a particular night club. i would like to take this on and make some dough along with having a nice and semi big surface to work on. the client kind of left it open, some general idea of what they want. when i went to check it out, i was offered more space than originally discussed and thats fine with me. now i wouldn't just be painting letters on a wall, it would be more of a themed thing through out sections of the space. i would like to know what kind of ex…

I'm a huge fan of illustrations and I've come across quite a few inspirational illustrators so I thought I'd share. Feel free to contribute as well! I've been a fan of this dude for quite some time and I think his shit is off the hook! These images are from a comic book he has coming out and also some random illustrations.. I believe these were all produced with ink on illustration board. Characters from the comic And these are a few other random illustrations I'll post up some other artists later.
