EMPTE EYES: "just got back fr/ neck's show! It was suprisingly really fun and a really well put together show. After meeting the "goat killer" himself I found a new respect for Neckface! After seeing some of first tags go up in NYC in 2002, move abroad and come back to the United States of Neckface, seeing him in every publication on the web, magazines and exciting the outsider street art world suprised me to say the least. Talking with other writers to avg. joe, everyone wants to know who is this guy? and why? It's not neccesarily who he is but what he brings to the table! The raw excitement and youth of the ambitious kid "beat with the ugly stick" reminds us w…

Boogie I found this guy on FecalFace.com. I think all of you at 12oz would enjoy his subject matter: crackheads, street gang members, street people, and all kinds of other interesting groups. I'm not calling you crackheads or gang members, but the subject matter has to do with street culture in general. Really interesting and good quality stuff. If i had the money I'd buy all of this photos... I'd post images but... I'm on a mac and don't know how on a mac. Check it!

For the first time in my life I have a job that enables me to make substantial purchases (by substantial i mean anything over $500). So my first major puchase is going to be a new laptop. I know for sure I'm going to buy a mac laptop--as i already have a PC desktop-- so I'm looking for advice on whether I should purchase the best ibook (G4 1.33 GHz, 256 MB, 60 GB, SuperDrive, 32 MB Video, AirPort, 14" @ $1,899) or the worst powerbookPowerBook (1.33 GHz, 256 MB, 60 GB, ComboDrive, AirPort, 12" @ $2,099) It will be used primarily for doing work in Pshop, illustrator, Quark, and Flash--and maybe, maybe a bit of after effects. Is it worth shelling out an additional $200 …

"Jean-Michel Basquiat was a major part of the art scene in the eighties. He originally was noticed for his involvement in the graffiti movement of the late seventies where he, along with companion Al Diaz, went by the tag SAMO. The idea of SAMO was almost like a pseudo-religion, an alternative to the mainstream. Examples of quotes they would write include "PLUSH SAFE HE THINK" and "SAMO AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO MINDWASH." Basquiat was included in his first group show in 1980. In 1981, Rene Ricard published the first major article on Jean-Michel in Artforum Magazine titled "The Radiant Child." This acted as a catalyst to his career. This same artist that was spray-painti…

Art Brut, artists and art The idea of "Art Brut" appeared around 1945. Its conception is generally attributed to the French painter Jean Dubuffet who meant by the term "works executed by those immune to artistic culture in which imitation has no role; in which their creators take all (subjects, materials, transposition, rhythm, style etc.) from their own individuality and not from the base of classical art or stylish trends". One can understand from this definition that parctitioners of "Art Brut" are mentally or socially marginal: prisoners, patients of psychiatric hospitals or other institutions, originals, solitary beings, condemned, all individuals who have a so…

before we went out clubbing in philly last night i took some pix of a friend of mine... this has been pretty heavily altered in photoshop, aside from the obvious switch to b&w it was originally a vertical shot i then cropped horizontal and made to 8x10 praportions the background while not very visable to the left of her face was kinda busy and i wasnt too fond of, so that was removed... most all minor skin blemishes were healed out and used nik sharpening tools the only other thing i was thinking of doing was painting her lips a soft pink color... and messed around w/ it a bit, but even on very very light opasity i couldnt get it to look the…

http://www.idanda.net/design.php?issue=5&t...ticle&pagenum=1 ‘We really wanted to avoid doing one of those self-indulgent, masturbatory design monographs which are beautiful but essentially pointless,’ says LA based partner Peter Rentz of the new book of their work about to be published by premier UK design book publisher, Booth-Clibborn. He adds a little sheepishly, ‘Though I guess that’s what we’ve made all the same.’ GH have a complex relationship to the design industry at large. On the one hand, the partners are simply a part of the newest generation of designers to rise through the ranks, ready to love the industry, respect its past, debate, discuss…

"This humungus scrap metal ball is real. You can tell this by the size of both the man standing alongside and by the individual car parts crushed and mangled within. The parts are taken very literally from scrapped American cars - American because Anthrax are American, and metal because Anthrax are a sort of metal band, and a big mother of a ball because Anthrax are naturally a big mother of a band. The lighting - highlights and shadows - also tells you that this effing great ball, the result possibly of some weird magnetic collision, or the mentally controlled plaything of the naked man, is a real thing in a real place, but, and here's the catch, not all at the same time…

This may have been done before, couldn't find it on search, though. You may recognize his work from Supersize me and Apocalypse Culture II (well, probably not the latter). Ron English has been painting subversive, anti-corporate paintings for a while. He's even put in work at illegaly taking over billboards. Dig it.

"At the age of twenty-four, living in New York City, he made the decision, as he describes it, to stop becoming an artist and actually be one. A dream led him to paint the American flag. He began to paint other iconic "found" images such as targets and numbers. These works were the polar opposite of abstract expressionism, the reigning style in New York City in the 1950s. Abstract expressionism was about the individual artist's cathartic self-expression, but Johns' paintings were cool, disengaged, and impersonal. He also painted recognizable images, which had all but disappeared from the art of that time. "

i did this shoot back in sept and finally got around to editing the photos about a week ago this one i have since edited again making it an 8x10 aspect ratio (as opposed to an 8x12 which it is here) to crop out the cars to the left of the image the rest from the series can be seen here: http://www.mikepanic.com/photos/09-17-2004...y_mens_clothing all shot on canon eos 10d, most w/ a 50mm f/1.8 lens, some w/ a 28-200 f/3.5-5.6, show in RAW format then converted to 8bit tiff files and color corrected and unsharp mask in photoshop cs thoughts/opinions/critique?

another one. let me know if its repost. "Fi5e" "I've been working on a graf analysis project. I've only done two versions so far, but the basic idea is I'll walk around a given area (in this case Harlem and the L.E.S.) and shoot photos of every tag I come across. Next I go through the images and isolate certain characters and reproduce them together in similar scales at close proximity. The intent is to show the diversity of styles as expressed in a single character."
