I was reading my world studies text book last night and i saw a picture of this freight yard in Africa. They had different kind of cars but they looked simular to our ridged box cars here in america. Im guessing these probably have never been hit but i still found it interesting. It would be even cooler if these things ran the whole continent of Africa.

Okay, okay, so, what is it with this sidebusting dilemma that gets so many of us up in arms. most trains are usually around 45-70 feet long and can fit about 3-4 nice size pieces on them, if you utilize all the space efficiently. knowing how expensive it is to travel and meet other writers, sometimes its nice to have an opportunity to bust with someone besides your krew, a taste of variety. i can understand if someone does an end to end and you bust over some guys piece just to be involved with a good writer on a freight, and end up having quite a few people heated at you. but if some guy does a, say, the left panel of a boxcar, and the right is perfectly clean, then …

ok i dont think there's ever been a topic specifically about this and it's definately pertinent information with freight pieces running for years often... so do any of you guys have a good idea of what colors/brands last the longest on freights and what doesn't? i really have no clue but to state the obvious i know gold and silver don't last nearly as long as their non-metallic counterparts.

I don't know much about modern music, or even out-of-fashion '80s music, but there is a righteous group of radical railfans called the Arizona Combat Rail Fans that love a band called "Wall of VooDoo." They are a type of rail fan that acts pretty crazy. They own a piece of desert out twelve miles east of Gila Bend, AZ, just north of Maricopa Road at MP 867, west of Shawmut Siding. These crazy guys go out there and camp, hang their collection of old railroad lanterns on the trackside fence and every time a train comes through, they shoot off fireworks and set off pyrotechnic displays, shoot flares into the air and explode what amounts to a huge firecracker. They launc…

last year i wrote a paper on railroads winning out over canals during the transportation revolution. it's about the technology before 1860, and deals mostly with the hype... if youre interested, drop me an email.. or if there's a demand for it, i could paste it here (but it's about 14 pages).

I don't know if tramps still use the Frisco or not. Maybe they do, but they don't know what it's called. I never hear much about the Frisco any more. A Frisco Circle is a way of sharing out what you have so that everybody benefits. If you want to make mulligan (stew), then everybody is charged with the responsibility of going and getting certain ingredients. Today, a lot of tramps are like "mission bums." If they can't get a charity hand-out, then they go hungry. Back in the day, resourceful tramps took pride in feeding not only themselves, but other bros as well. This is still true to a degree, but it is not nearly as prevalent as it was in the '50s and '60s, no…

this is more for the people who have hopped recently...........seems to me like trainage is locking down. down here shit has gotten downright rediculas. is it still 'easy' to hop....or have things gotten pretty heated? seems like 9/11 kind of did it in. i want to hope this summer to some places....but im not sure if my first town out needs to be in the midst of all this heat. i should just go out with kabar..mister seasoned veteran. ;) opinions people! by the way...are things as slow for everyone else as they have been down here? i know it's winter and all but come on.

Alright when I go to the local yard I usually do both sides of the same car in that night, and then go out to the city...Well I know their are probally a few other writers that go to the same yard, but I saw like 6 seperate cars the other day hit by this guy who bombs my city, but I have never met him, do you think 6 seperate cars is too much for a yard in one night, by making the yard hot? I really dont want this shit blown.

How many of you guys are actually friends with yard workers?? I know some kids who are actually cool with workers and some workers know them personally from them actually talking to them about graff and showing that they're just a cool person in general before painting anything!! I heard about a fr8 kid from the Dirty South region of the States who met some workers in a bar and they told him where to paint at in their yard where he wouldn't get in there way and they wouldn't mind!! Other people have said that the workers let them bench and even take pictures for the kids........ What's your story because I have none???

I have a buddy who doesn't hop or believe in tramping. He's a real straight arrow, but a good guy. Anyway, I thought I'd let you guys know that I have a new "handle"--my buddy has taken to teasing me by calling me "Hobo Claus." He thinks it's hilarious that I clean up jungles, and even funnier that I leave gunboats and one-gallon wine jugs full of water in the jungles. The other day he was throwing away a plastic drop-cloth and several 5-gallon buckets and I said, "Hey, let me have that stuff, it will be good for my jungles," and he started laughing and called me "Hobo Claus." What a pal, eh? I guess it is kind of true, though.
