im far from experienced when it comes to trains, i know quite a bit of safety issues and what not, but my question is about benching. alto of yall bench alot and i would like to start doing it more, but everytime i go i feel so fucking suspect on the tracks. now when you go to just bench, like grab flicks, do you still stay out of the workers site as much as possible? is it a big deal if they see you or not if you just catching flicks? ese i know you had your little couch posted up by tha tracks, is it cool to sit off to tha side like that and wait for the trains? and is it cool to walk down the tracks to go and get your flicks? i know better than to run…

aight, theres a layup like three blocks from my house. its dope that i found it cuz it looks pretty calm wit no security and its always got trains in it. but its by a lumber yard and the trains are short and there constantly loading them, i dont want to heat out the spot by letting some one in the engine see me. so im just waiting till i catch a good sized layup there to paint, but theres always these trains there that dont have a box car on them, there just like the bottoms of csx trains, ive seen them before with box cars or cars that look like semi trailers stacked on them. but anyways there big enough to hit the bottoms of them but they set in on the track, were if i…

just curious. how many of you bench at a spot frequented by railfans? where i bench the traffic is pretty good, so naturally the fans jock. but these guys dont ever shut up. i mean i never let on directly about graffiti but i take pictures of graff in front of them, but they dont really get it because i talk such good shit to them about trains and engines and shit. sometimes there real cool, i got some info from a csx worker one day who thought we were looking at engines. not too long ago another writer i know out here gave me a note that some fan left at the bench. it said something to the affect of "this is my spot, stay away you idiots" so naturally me and my knuck…

This is from: http://www.trainweb.org/canadianrailways/C...tember1998.html Quebec Gatineau News: the majority of green newsprint CP Rail cars have been restencilled from CP to QGRY. There are many variations, including painting over the "CP Rail" and/or the multimark, or any combination thereof. The cars receive a sticker with "QGRY" in a white on green colour scheme placed over the CP on the sides and ends. This same sticker is utilized on the former CPR locomotives, being placed directly below the number on the cab sides. There are very few cars remaining with their native CP markings, although the numbers have remained the same. Get your photos now. The font use…

Does anybody know some good websites where I can find a picture of a whole line, with some scenery, and maybe even a nice background? A picture of a line with an engine, boxcars, tankers, hoppers, a caboose, and all that good stuff would be super nice. Thanks. :)

the yard that i painted my first boxcar was apparently owned by KCS... but since then it hasn't had much action... mostly now it's a layup for coal hoppers and there hasn't been anything worth painting in that yard for a really long time... i know that alot of the cars that i hit go through this yard to get to the main UP line and most of what i paint now is UP... but as i walked past i saw a for sale sign by the road infront of the yard that said "Kansas City Southern RR for sale" it also had the achorage on it too... does anyone know if any company has been buying up KCS? i don't think that they will trash that yard because it's the only way freights get to that main UP…

...you see a writers stuff for a year or so and you think his shit is fresh. But then you meet the writer and hes just another kid who lives good off of mommy and daddy. The type of toy who got into this whole freight gang..game surfing the net. He figured it would be cool to go out and do one or two thousand pieces in a year. When you meet the fool all he talks about is his numbers, and who jocks him. Then gets on the internet and asks where yards are and talk tuff about how he's gonna kick somebodys ass like he's some kind of freight gangster tuff guy. next time you meet some fuck like this ask him will he be around in 5 years, still painting, TRAINS. Ask this fuck…

so i go to the companies site, enter my info and check to see where my most recent work is going...ah great, its already a few hundred miles away in Zigadyboo, Zimbabwe (hypothetical names and dates here), then i look over at the date and it says 14/7, that doesnt do me any good because i painted the car on 14/11 in Mangina, Nepal....basically what i have here is out of date information, my question is why. will the information not be updated until it reaches its final destination or does the information get updated as the car passes through various yards? i need a hint on why this certain location and week old date is comming back when the car was obviously a few hundere…

The Flipside Principle

Here's another obscure topic for the advanced freight geek. You'd think that, once you piece a car, it has a 50% chance of facing the right way when it goes by someone benching, right? (Or, for the Murphy's Law cynics, that it's more like 10%, but you're only half serious.) Well, the news is, maybe not, especially if your car doesn't go far before coming back. I painted a big percentage of my freights at a sweet spot which no longer exists. The vast majority were done on the same side of the line, and just a couple on the flipside, as it was far less chill there. Six hundred miles away, a regular bencher we knew of caught our stuff once in a while. It took me a long t…

..Funny how I just come on to say how i completed a mission and all of a sudden a bunch of punks think they can clown. Piss off bitches. You think I care if you think my name is wack? HAHAHA. I have been writing CAPS for almost 10 years. I didn't just start wrtiting a year ago like half the clowns who posted did. My spot was chill and will continue to be chill because we know things. My crew is not lame. We research for hours watching listening and learning routes patterns and whatnot. We know our yard and like the kid from Canada said our yard moves all night and day. We are a main shipping district so spots never get hot and if they do we got PLENTY of others. PLUS if y…

About 75% of the younger trainhoppers that I know carry and use a UHF/VHF scanner when they are in the Yard, waiting to catch out, or on board a train. The old timer tramps had a longer lead time on learning to tell what was going on by the movement of trains, movement of railroad personnel and crummies (crew buses or vans), sound of the air in the airbrake lines and so on, but since they often ride the same lines over and over again, in time, they got to know the trains, the railroad workers and the schedule so well, that they could predict (more or less) what was going to happen. The younger trainhoppers aren't that patient. First of all, they aren't usually rid…

Alright, im pretty fucking pissed right now and i figured id just share this with everyone for no particular reason. Okay, let me start off by saying that througout most of the time I've been painting I mainly stuck to walls, I always heard of fr8s and shit but I never really took it seriously, then sometime about a year ago I realized that a wall might get seen by a few people and maybe a writer or two, but a fr8 rolls all over, rarely gets buffed, writers LOOK FOR THEM, and compared to some realms of graf they have potential to be a little less stressful, plus it tends to stray from the "thug element" that i never really found too appealing. I decided that if i was g…

well...things have been worked out at http://www.jumex.org/~nbf/ and everythings up and running again....so its time to get back to work. One of the new things I'm trying to get going on the site is called "Ask a Train Nerd", a little Q&A about freights. Heres the explanation from http://www.jumex.org/~nbf/askanerd.html : "Thats right, this is your chance to have whatever obscure train related question thats been bugging you answered by a real live train nerd. As this site is not a democracy, but a small little dictatorship, the train nerd will answer whatever questions he damn well likes. If you ask somthing stupid you may get no response, but if its basic it …

some more bullshit to deal w/ thanks to ASSama. fuckin guy. Senator John McCain of Arizona, one of Amtrak's harshest critics in Congress, has joined Senator Ernest Hollings of South Carolina in introducing legislation that would give Amtrak $1.77 billion over two years to improve safety and security. Section 2 of the Rail Security Act of 2001 would authorize $515 million for system-wide Amtrak security upgrades; $998 million for New York tunnel "life-safety" projects plus rehabilitation of tunnels in Baltimore and Washington; and $254 million to improve emergency accessibility to New York City's Penn Station, renovate the Thames and Nianti…

Good article on www.trains.com today. very relevant to what we do. It applies alot less to us up here in canada (thankfully), but its somthing to consider: " September 11 changed the world, and train-watching too Fans should act responsibly in a security-conscious era by Bill Stephens Terry Juuti If the world changed dramatically on September 11, then so did the pastime of train watching. Just how dramatically, and for how long, remains to be seen. But for now – given heightened security and the ever-present concern about trains becoming terrorist targets – the best advice is for railfans to lay low for a while, exercise extra caution, and, above …
