IOU
Finally back on my bike. Might have pushed too hard though as my bum leg is now acting up again, but I think it'll sort itself out soon enough. Thinking of doing a long and slow ride soon to take a bunch of flicks before it gets to hot. Word.

Fist 666
yes, but it'd be better if her legs had some tone indicating that she actually rode.... i'm about $700 from completing my 29er 1x9 build. just been riding my SS around getting less out of shape. justaname
I really don't understand the huge uprising in popularity of fixed gear, I kind of do but doesn't make sense when it comes to riding it as a mode of every day transportation. I live in the nw and there's a lot of muhfukin' hills round here. It seems like a crazy inefficient way to get around. Do what u do but I just don't understand. So explain to me in 50 words or less. Decyferon
my brother rides one but then he has other bikes too, people ride them for enjoyment or training or commuting. I wouldnt have one myself becaue where I live is so fucking hilly some of them are smallest gear and still a difficulty to ride (luckily they are only short). Cycling is all about enjoyment, if you enjoy riding them then more power to you. If I still lived in my hometown I would have one because it is much flatter and would be great blassting along on one, although it would have to be a second bike because would always want a geared bike as my main bike. Mr. Incognito
because gears aren't necessary in a flat urban area where most people would ride fixed gear. so why not sacrifice a few hundred bucks on quality shifters for a better quality frame or whatever else? Fist 666
there is not legitimate excuse beyond cool points. single speed has an argument, fixed gear does not.

suca
i feel like its a comparable argument as "why the hell do people smoke cigs?" -one thing ive just never understood. but then, while there are so many negative effects and health risks, millions of people do it. i can only conclude smoking satisfies ones oral fixation for calming effects, and to look cool, fit in, etc. and i can only conclude that people ride fixies to claim its more difficult and therefore more awesome, and to look cool, fit in, etc. i smoke weed but not cigs, and ride a single not a fixie. weed at least gets me high, and i can at least brake on a single speed. iloveboxcars
TL;WR: (Too Long; Wont Read): A woman was hit while riding her bike in Mississippi, the person driving the vehicle got out of the car, yelled at the woman for riding her bike, then got back into her car and drove over her once more. The DA claims there are no laws protecting cyclists, and so the DA will not press charges. The family is trying to get the word out Full story(Stolen from reddit) with links and shit so you can help: Last month, a dear friend of mine named Jan Morgan was hit while riding her bicycle training for an Ironman. It was a straight road (no turns or hills) and the sun could not have been in the driver's eyes. The car hit them from behind at full speed. At first glance you might think this was an accident. BUT Robbie Norton, the woman who hit Jan, got out of the car, looked at Jan, yelled at her for cycling in the road, got back in her car and ran Jan over again. There were multiple witnesses who stopped Robbie Norton by dragging her out of the car. Below is the verbatim crash report given to her husband David Morgan: THE CYCLIST WAS WEST BOUND ON MS50 NEAR THE TRULOVE LOOP INTERSECTION. V1 WAS WEST BOUND ON MS50 APPROACHING THE CYCLIST FROM THE REAR. THE FRONT OF V1 COLLIDED WITH THE REAR OF THE BICYCLE. THE IMPACT THREW THE CYCLIST INTO THE AIR BEFORE LANDING ON THE HOOD OF V1 AND ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. V1 CONTINUED FOR A FEW FEET BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE CYCLIST WAS THEN THROWN TO THE ASPHALT WHEN V1 STOPPED. THE DRIVER OF V1 EXITED THE VEHICLE AND OBSERVED THE CYCLIST WHILE TALKING ON THE PHONE. D1 THEN REENTERED HER VEHICLE AND RAN THE CYCLIST OVER AGAIN BEFORE BEING FORCED FROM HER VEHICLE BY WITNESSES. V1 CAME TO FINAL REST FACING WEST IN THE WEST BOUND LANE ON MS 50 JUST METERS WEST OF THE TRULOVE LOOP INTERSECTION. THE CYCLIST CAME TO FINAL REST NEAR THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE OF V1. BLOG DEDICATED TO JAN [9] http://getwelljan.blogspot.com/ Reddit, the problem is, we've just learned they do not intend on pressing charges. Reason? The District Attorney, Forrest Allgood, says there are no laws in Mississippi to protect cyclists from this. Her husband David Morgan and son Sean Dyess would like national attention in an effort to call for cycling safety advocacy. If you have any national media contacts please contact David or Sean using the following: [10] David Morgan [11] https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1088554856 and [12] Sean Dyess [13] https://www.facebook.com/mrhooch the only thing Jan's husband David and son Sean are asking for is some national media attention. If you can help them get it, please do. They want to keep this from happening to someone else. I have David and Sean's phone number. justaname
I ride fixed because I fucking want to. Nobody cares if you "understand" or not. uhkay bruh... I understand the "enjoyment of a different feeling riding a fixie" since you can't really argue with other people's enjoyment. I don't live around a lot of flat lands so I have no clue but I've seen a lot of fixies around. Why can't they press charge on the second action? attempted murder or vehicular homicide or some thing?
Fist 666
yeah, i don't understand how vehicular homicide or vehicle as a weapon type charges don't apply.
iloveboxcars
that was also my question. apparently the DA is not having it. they are hoping that if this gets enough media attention the DA will be forced to not be a retard.

fat ralphy
San Fran is super hilly, fixies galore, next argument. There needs to be a fixed gear thread. On a real point, im going to begin training because i want to do the Aids Life Cycle next summer, Any suggestions on good ways to prep/train. Anything good as far as leg lifts at the gym?
count chocula
saddle time is by far the most important thing you can possibly do. gym time is overrated unless you're planning on racing. from what i understand - they only do like 50-80 miles/day, which is easy considering the limited amount of climbing involved in that route. in short: mimic the ride, do back to back to back 50+ mile rides.
Mr. Incognito
yeah, i don't understand how vehicular homicide or vehicle as a weapon type charges don't apply. thats just one of the many fucked up stories about people getting fucked with/hurt while riding. it makes me wonder why some people in here try to give me shit for legally carrying a gun 100% of the time im out on my bike. sorry, but i don't trust anyone on the road in cars, not to mention when im on a bike. as far as the whole fixed gear argument goes, i have more fun on mine than i ever did on any other free wheel bike i had, enough to the point to actually consider biking a hobby and something i enjoy. but there are plenty of hipster turds around here with nice fixed gears that never even ride and that's what pisses me off the most
