Got off the plane Friday night, dropped off our bags and went to some squat called Tommy Haus. Extreme Noise Terror My brother took photos because I am too short to see over all the heads. Most of the photos look like this. Dude had messed up his leg somehow in Spain. He was on crutches and super wasted on various substances. It was still a really awesome show. Except for the fact that the dude behind me kept pulling on my hair and dancing too close. THe next day we wandered around. A bombed out church up the block from our hotel. I took loads of "tourist" shots of my brother. TV tower communists built to show West Berlin that they were doing it up big. More walking. We went to the DDR museum. This dead mouse was outside of the shop where pants were bought. I liked the old school trains the best. With wood panelling and camo seats. Super classy. We walked to a vegetarian diner for dinner. On the way, we passed a firehouse that was covered in the worst mural I have ever seen. This was too good to be passed by. We finished off the night with some coffee at a cafe in a mall. They had all these art bears everywhere. That bear is Berlin's little guy. My brother with the Finnish one. The next day it was raining. We woke up and had some coffee at Dunkin Donuts. There were little birds inside searching for crumbs to eat. My brother, Karl Marx, and some other commie. Bike tour begins. In this center courtyard area something like 20,000 books were burned in one night. It was the largest book burning ever. Lots of sad stuff happened in Germany. There is a memorial to the book burning that is a glass window that allows you to look underground. You look into a library that all the shelves are empty. To signify the loss of the written word. It was raining, the window was covered in water, no photos could be taken. Courtyard of the old castle. We rode our bikes downtown. I got us lost. We ended up taking the train. Ad for a kid eating Super Dickmann's and being really surprised at how much he loves the Dickmann's. This bridge wobbles if someone is jogging across it. Crazy German one man band in Ludwigsburg. Ludwigsburg castle is fully furnished in the Baroque fashion. It's all gold and chandeliers and stuff that I love. I think this was a memorial to dead soldiers or something like that. A super old cemetary in Stuttgart. The "newest" deceased was from 1845. Is it disrespectful to ride bikes in a cemetary? We continued riding through a park downtown and over toward the zoo. I also have a feeling that we will be going back again too see more of the city. There was a tour of squats and graffiti, which the thought of it made me laugh. A city so rich with history and people would pay to go on a tour almost completely absent of any value what-so-ever. It's like...."This squat has punk shows and also houses numerous Berlin activists and alcoholics. You can see the punk rocker in his natural habitat. They are known to sleep late, shower infrequently, and eat meals concocted completely out of food found in dumpsters." We booked a flight to Dresden for the 4th of July and will hopefully take a train to Prague to see the bone chapel.
