Mousetrap was awesome and anyone who disagrees can GTFO. Although, I think it might have been a 70s creation, not 80s.

The boardgame sucked, you skipped playing that altogether and just set up the trap so you could spring it. The rolling marble was the highlight.

theres a 90's memory being able to look at shit like that!

90s porn for the win, though.

Still remember finding my first penthouse down at McGees track, the illegal BMX trail down next to Ted Horward Reserve. Had to be careful though, old McGee might come out of his shack and punch you full of salt pellets, or so the legend went.

the late 90's heroin boom in sydney - YOU chasin' bro?

and late 90's when 50 of these little guys would walk into the bar I worked at and I'd be there with no security back up at 3am.

"I want 60 bourbon & coke."

10 Minutes later

"I want 60 bourbon and coke"

and so on for the next hour or so until they get into a brawl with two navy dudes playing pool who ended up getting their arses handed to them.

Not only were the violent and scary but they were also fucking rubbish tippers.

Yep, I ran doors on George St (Metro) and Oxford St (QBar) from 95-99. I saw the Vietnamese gangs come into the city, I saw the bikies move into Oxford St chasing the speed market. I saw the wave of steroids and anger sweep through the clubs that used to be pretty peaceful and fun, based on E turn into coke city. I saw guys get their heads horribly stomped by Tongans coked to the eyeballs and boozed up. I saw a guy held down in the gutter, face out with a foot on his throat with guys throwing glasses into his face, looked like he'd been in a fucking food processor when they were done. Saw a guy fuck a chick literally in the gutter on Oxford St, etc. etc. etc.

Working doors in the 90s was fucking insane. I shit you not when I say that I saw more brutality working doors than I did in conflict zones.

Which bar you work in, @Schnitzel?

Ha, know it well but never went it. I recall the rumor that they had to removed the sharks out of the tanks as the music was distressing them.

That was a pretty Chinese joint, right?

How the fuck would you guys have not had security in a place like that at 3am?!

@Hua Guofang

Yes there were two small (3ft) black tip reef sharks in the tank.

Funny story about those sharks, despite what the environmental protesters were saying those sharks were very well looked after. If you discount that they were in a tank not in the sea they did surprisingly well. I used to see they guy from the aquarium come feed them every few days and check the water etc.

if there was a problem they went instantly into a tank downstairs that was huge talking 40m2 that could be pumped with anti biotics etc. But it was completely black plastic except for where you could open the manhole to feed etc. One night me an da glassy were taking the bottles down and we lifted the manhole cover to have a look  peered into the blackness and SNAP! shark breached the water ready to bite before flashing back into the water. Theory was that since it existed in blackness to keep it chilled seeing the light from the manhole cover opening made it think of food.

Security was only present three nights a week thursday night till 1am, friday and satyrday till close.

was very chinese with the gamblers, korean & japanese with the foreign students, Vietnamese with the gang dudes on weekends for R&B nights,  full of white dudes trying it with asian chicks.

Full of white dudes trying it with Asian chicks - sounds like Asia in general.

The rumour was that the sound of the base was traveling through the water of the tank and stressing the sharks. Well, that's the one I heard anyway. Did they actually get removed or was that just rumour too?

Metro was a pretty cruisy place to work. Mostly bands and dance parties, easy gigs in general. THe shit was what went down outside on the street, but that was never our problem. QBar, that was a different story altogether. Saw a bunch of serious hurt up on that street. Worst I get was a split lip from a stray punch. We were also the only independent door on the street, although, that came into question when the son of the leader of the Rebels started working on our door with his crew. In saying that though, if they were moving stuff, they were extremely quiet about it. Didn't save us any fucking trouble though, not sure what the point was.

That would have been true I reckon which is why they had the downstairs quieter tank.

In the end the sharks went because they were pretty naff and a lot of money for a novelty that didn't really add anything but trouble.

They were cool to look at though.

Metro was a great venue I loved being off my face standing on one of the tiers looking down at all the people dancing at sabotage or other house events.

Mr.c  from the shamen was great gig in early 2000 there.

Some fucking mad parties there. Was cool to have that tiered main room with the DJ up the side, so you had the stage, the floor, the tiers and the bar area all going off. Then there was the more chilled front bar and sometimes they'd have the Dendy theatre playing trippy movies at the same time. Probably my fav party venue in Syd. Best party was when Danny Tenaglia did a fucking 8 hour set. The train ride out to Parramatta at 7am the next day was fucking harrowing though. Luckily, there was about 6 of us for mutual support.

80/90s dance parties were an experience I am so glad to have in my life. Some of the huge ones at the Horden, or those out at Wiseman's that had 15,000 people alongside the smaller, sweatier ones in basements and warehouses to the harbour cruises of only 100 or so people that all knew each other and were super-chilled events. It was our 60s but the women shaved their armpits and wore less clothes.

Sparkly, high-cut hot pants and bikini tops was a thing for quite a while and I loved it.

I haven't been to a club in Australia for 15 years now. Don't think I miss the clubs much.

For me in the states it’s more 00 memories but I don’t miss the clubs as much as I miss the let outs and afters.

Staff drinks, where you were allowed to have one guest accompany you, in the clubs were..., rather messy affairs.

I once found the DJ's wife lying in a puddle of, what I assume was her own piss. The amount of coke groupies that got to see the inside of the storeroom or back stairs was ridiculous and the arguments between the glassies as to who would DJ staffies - so they could impress the boss and become the new house DJ (lol!) - were fucking idiotic.

THe clubs always looked so ugly in daylight when the curtains were drawn, which was the best way to get everyone to fuck off home.

I used to do electrical maintenance at a bunch of pubs & clubs when I was an apprentice, it was always grimey as fuck in the daylight everything was sticky and trashed

Made a good amount of return business for myself getting smashed on a Wednesday night and ripping the hand driers off the walls in the bathrooms then coming back Thursday morning getting paid to repair them
