blood meridian is shaking, no doubt, it took me like 4 tries over a year to finish it.

but that was just terrifying, where sunset limited is basically sound reasoning to kill yourself.

though a lot of mccarthy's work is that misanthropic, *holy shit what did i just read* experience i would highly recommend either 'the orchard keeper' or 'suttree.' both great tales that are less focused on the atrocity of man.

thanks for the recommendations, i'll have to be on the lookout for em.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a book about the prison industrial complex in the United States? I have some suspicions about the prison system in that it is moving more and more toward a for profit model and much like the military is going to be controlled by corporations rather than the state itself.

What I am looking for is a book that explores these issues in a readable way.

Will gladly exchange 35 Internets for recommendation.

i honestly didn't know what to expect when i picked this up, i knew it wasn't going to be amazing, but i really had no idea how bad this shit is. one of my uncles who is a bad ass reads his stuff fanatically, and now i think he's less of a bad ass.

now i can say i've read cussler and have no need to do so again. ever.
