I have a favor to ask of you. I need to collect data for a school project and have changed my focus to the Mac vs. PC debate. Bojangles (PC) and I (Mac) had another one of our "colorful" conversations about this subject last night and I decided to use it as the basis for a visualization project I am working on. I would love your help, so if you could respond and answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it! 1. Do you own a Mac or PC? (If both, pick one) 2. Give me 5 reasons why you love it 3. Give me 5 reasons why you hate it (For example, I LOVE my mac, but I could name some reasons why it frustrates me as well) 4. abcs Posted February 25, 2011 Share Posted February 25, 2011 Mac is fancy UNIX BSD. They charge fancy money for the fancy GUI Linux is a free operating system. You can give Linux the OSX GUI. I have yet do do so but plan to. Being that Mac is UNIX it is file oriented. Windows constitutes some 92 or 93 pct of the market. Mac is like 6 pct or thereabouts. Mac is more secure insofar as it has UNIX underpinnings and windows is attacked more. Thats where the payload is... the 90+ pct I have a Imac and a PC. OSX Snow Leopard & windows 7 ultimate I like them both in terms of usability. I dislike Microsoft because they would like to and have been tryin to buy Linux patents to phaze out the op system. I hate that you have to pay for Mac and i hate that you have to pay for Microsoft. Besides that Windows 7 isnt a bad product and OSX is very user friendly. If i had a choice between the both. Love my PC because: - I know my way around better; it feels easier to mess with. - CHEAPER. - Supports stupid shit like GTA san andreas that i can play when i'm drunk. - Everyone in my line of work uses Microsoft office, - I like the OS better. 3. Hate it because: - Susceptible to viruses no matter how much antispyware/etc i have - It's not "cool" - Dell's warranty shit is terrible. - For design/photography/artwork, you need to have a mac. - I dunno. 4. They get viruses. It's just that since they only have about 5% of the market share not enough people are specifically trying to attack them. But trust they are VERY SUSCEPTIBLE to viruses. Good for pron browsers good because its a quality product. What pisses me off about mac. It doesn't always recognize or work with windows file extensions. Their read only NTFS used to piss me off alot till i found a work around Windows is good in a business environment. Active directory, Server 2K8. They have built an empire around the fact they deliver solid business solution. I dont like how hyper vigilant i have to be to avoid viruses and shit like that. Your age (or range if you prefer) 19 As a side note, I LOVE the Mac OS because I can run windows, natively, in another window; which proves to be extremely helpful. Parallels makes it possible. Your age (or range if you prefer) 1: i own a pc.. dell inspiron actually.. 2: dont really have five reasons its the only thing i have and without it i'd loose all my music ive downloaded over the years and the stuff im working on and it would suck alot... 3: the fucking monitor is slightly broken now, it wont close all the way cause something magically snapped one day i was on it, it always tells me to update norton but they want like a hundred bucks for a virus protector, im straaaight... it tweeks out sometimes to where i cant log in and have to turn it off for a little bit so it can work again... and some other things i cant really think of now.. fuck a dell... 4: give me a muthafuckin mac so i dont have to deal with this shit no more... 5: the dub.... Its a regular mouse with a right and a left click. I just checked out my right clik on this mac mouse and its a helpful shortcut, Print page, save page, view source, back, foreward. open in dashboard. PC 2. -easy to use -im used to using it -i use it more for school related things (whereas I feel Macs are used more for entertainment and media related things) -my pc wasnt too expensive -i feel like it doesnt freeze/crash as much as macs do. 3. -its not as ideal for using when it comes to media related things (like photo/video editing) -im frustrated that microsoft office doesnt come with it -feel like its more prone to virus' (unless you have a good antivirus) -after a few years it slows down -not very itunes friendly 4. I can build my own hardware setup, fine tuning parts that are interchangeable every 8 months when a better piece of hardware is released, thereby allowing me to be at the top of the curve, so to speak. PC's can be inexpensive if all you need is a crtain function performed (eg, the internet, checking email). PC's can also be beefed up to handle quad GPU gaming and pixel bandwidth that would make your moms panties wet. 3. Driver updates are a pain, Windows as an operating system sucks because it is proprietary, the fact that all games are ported to PC rather than Mac. PC has a learning curve - actually this is a plus, as it weeds out the casual computing enthusiasts instead of coddling them like Ma0cintosh has done so successfully. Is that 5? 4.
