Organic Therapy
So, it is 4:30 in the morning and I just got home from a nice little relaxing 2 hour walk. I am interested in knowing how many people speak a language other than English? Yo hablo Espanol, pero es el Espanol de la calle y toda esa porqueria. No lo que te ensenyan en la escuela and shit. gasfacevictm
Any fuck abroad who acts like they don't speak English is lying. Not true man. China, good luck. It's all pointing and hand motions. Korea, you can get by in cities most days. Try hitting the rural areas or even suburbs and people just run away from you. I got survival Korean and Russian. Pieces of Spanish but by no means am I even close to conversational at anything other than English.
MaxRoach
has anyone here used rosetta stone? are you fluent because of it?
gasfacevictm
I've used it. It helps with vocabulary and pronunciation and building sentences and all. You gotta get out and talk to get better than that though.
Drue_Down
Not true man. China, good luck. It's all pointing and hand motions. meh.. never been to Asia, never plan to either. But for most non-slope countries, if they are under 40 and selling you something, best believe they know what you are saying.

zebradrips
i speak french. i also studied italian for a minute in high school. i don't really remember how to speak it but having learned that & french means that i can read spanish, if not speak it. a lot of times i will find myself mouthing the spanish words on signs on the train to myself. i probably know more than i think i do but as i've never studied it or been to a spanish-speaking country, it does me little good. i would like to learn arabic and portuguese. Organic Therapy
German is such a harsh language. A friend of mine said "I love you" to her in German and it sounded like he wanted to eat her.
Spaceman Spiff
I lived in Germany from 10-15 years old, but didn't learn a thing. I wish I had now, but there's really no use for it anymore. Ich liebe dich. Edit: Actually, I learned how to say I play with my balls, but have no idea how to spell it. Ich speil mit mienen neuss. It sounds like that anyways.
