Different Languages

Recommended Posts

So, it is 4:30 in the morning and I just got home from a nice little relaxing 2 hour walk.

I am interested in knowing how many people speak a language other than English?

Yo hablo Espanol, pero es el Espanol de la calle y toda esa porqueria. No lo que te ensenyan en la escuela and shit.

I know bits and pieces of Spanish. Once I find a good opportunity to rack the Rosetta Stone from the mall I'll learn that shit. Until then, just English.

I used to speak Italian and Spanish... but I have not practiced in a decade.

I know enough to get by in every country I go to:

This - That

Where - When

Right - Left

Please - Thankyou

How much for _____?

Another beer, please

Where is the Bathroom?

Too expensive (For haggling)

Any fuck abroad who acts like they don't speak English is lying.

I plan to teach my son a foreign language as he learns English, so I will learn it with him too.

Not true man.

China, good luck. It's all pointing and hand motions.

Korea, you can get by in cities most days. Try hitting the rural areas or even suburbs and people just run away from you.

I got survival Korean and Russian. Pieces of Spanish but by no means am I even close to conversational at anything other than English.

I've used it.

It helps with vocabulary and pronunciation and building sentences and all.

You gotta get out and talk to get better than that though.

meh.. never been to Asia, never plan to either.

But for most non-slope countries, if they are under 40 and selling you something, best believe they know what you are saying.

i speak french.

i also studied italian for a minute in high school.

i don't really remember how to speak it but having learned that & french means that i can read spanish, if not speak it.

a lot of times i will find myself mouthing the spanish words on signs on the train to myself.

i probably know more than i think i do but as i've never studied it or been to a spanish-speaking country, it does me little good.

i would like to learn arabic and portuguese.
