earl broclo ESQ
Marwencol is definitely worth watching for anyone who is an artist or fan of the arts. Mark Hogancamp and his story is inspirational. Apparently he's having legal troubles. http://www.marwencol.com/help-mark/ We need your help! We are looking for a New York state-based lawyer with expertise in disability law to provide some free or reduced-fee information to us and to Mark. If you or someone you know can help, please contact Jeff at marwencol@gmail.com. Thanks very much! Spread the word if you think you can help. Ko SprueOne
this was on PBS last week in the morning. Caught some of it briefly before work. Looks good and interesting I might buy the DVD, will that help?
earl broclo ESQ
I don't think it will help because I think the case has to do with legal issues with his disability insurance. There seems to be an issue between profits on his art and what he gets from the state. We just started watching disc 1 of Circus, the PBS documentary. I'm hooked after two episodes. If you like character driven pieces, I highly recommend this series -so far. It's on Netflix.
Cool_Hand
I fucking hate clowns, but that circus trailer looked pretty interesting
earl broclo ESQ
There are only three clowns in this circus, and they aren't like Ringling Brothers. I've actually been to this circus when family was in town with our nieces and nephews. They do a good job. There are these cossack horse riders on the series that are insane. The style of riding originated with the Mongols when they went into battle and is fucking insane.

qsysue
I loved Marwencol. Totally awesome. I'm looking forward to going through this entire megathread and checking out the recommendations. I'm not into your typical Hollywood fare unless it's so bad that it's awesome (then I love it). Here are a few of my favorite under-the-radar movies: Hausu - A 70s Japanese horror movie about a house that is possessed and eats little school girls. Who incidentally all seem to end up naked when they're killed. -- Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story - A documentary about the life of Karen Carpenter, acted out with Barbie dolls. Seriously. It's rather disturbing. The filmmakers used the Carpenters music in it without permission, so it's no longer distributed, but you can find pirated copies for sale online, or watch the whole thing on youtube. -- Birdy - An 80s Vietnam war/buddy movie starring Nicolas Cage and Matthew Modine. Really great--music by Peter Gabriel, and probably my favorite ending of any movie ever (except maybe Harold & Maude). -- Primer - A fairly recent indie movie basically made in someone's garage for about $7,000. Time travel story but not what you'd expect. I had to watch it a couple times to figure out what exactly was going on. Really good though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CC60HJvZRE -- Agnes of God - Another 80s movie, about a novice nun in a convent who has a baby. It's basically a murder mystery. -- Searching For Bobby Fischer - A family-friendly movie about a boy who is a chess podigy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pdY47NJv-g -- Also some fave documentaries: King of Kong Confessions of a Superhero Young @ Heart
