One of the best but most provoking political movies I’ve recently seen is Unthinkable. It’s about an American terrorist who converted to Islam and has planted three nuclear bombs in three different cities in the United States. When time is running out, the intelligence services ask a ruthless and brutal interrogator to deal with him and locate the bombs. As a result, he tries to crack the terrorist with the help of controversial psychological techniques and extreme torture practices.

It’s really a must see movie. While watching it, you are constantly put in a situation where you have to make impossible decisions, choosing between your own moral values and the human rights of the terrorist and the deep desire to save thousands of holy innocent lives.

On a higher level, the movie explores if the Western world with all its morals and values is too weak to survive or stand terror. It argues that we have to act like these people, as long as they think they come to paradise for their acting or being martyrs we won’t stop them. It makes you think that maybe –paradoxically- we have to give up our fundamental values in the short run to protect them in the long run. The debate about torture is complex and clearly not as simple as it seems. There’s a narrow path between wrong and right, evil and good.
