the philosophy of life thread

anybody care to share yours?

i read something from Freud years back that stated "Of the three forces which can dispute the position of science, religion alone is a really serious enemy".

In a way, I could agree with this because religion has started wars, and made people take other's lives all because they couldn't come to a common belief: religion and its sole purpose is to help guide your life.

I'm not really religious, although, I do believe that theres a god, or at least a spirit if you will, that watches over us.

I guess my only philosophy on life would be that you should just live everyday as if you knew the exact date of your demise. I see too many people who just mope around all day and never make the best of their situation.

Anyways, whether this thread does good or not, maybe someone can tell us about the philosophy of good thread making or something.

oddly enough man

ive never thought about my personal life philosophy

most important to me is to retain my integrity as a person, and go by stanards

treat others with dignity and respect, unless they show me i should do otherwise

get money to live comfortably and care for loved ones

thats about it

in a nutshell

I'm basically trying to get to the top of a pyramid where, I'm supposed to meet an eagle who is going to give me the key to the city, and something is on fire.. (It might be the eagle or my body or my brain.)

yes. now that is a fucking philosophy..

i believe in doing good on to others as much as possible. even if its like some stranger trying to carry a bunch of stuff, i'll hold the door open for them. i'll go out of my way to help out old friends, sometimes i hook people up at the store i work at, and not ring up some stuff if they look like they've fallen on hard times, or if they are just cool people and say something to make me laugh. but i have my days when im a total asshole and i'll cut you off and slam on my brakes when im driving. its all karma, usually old friends i helped out in the past will run into me at some random spot and buy me a couple beers at the local bar, or tell me about a party thats happening.

Max Ehrmann

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

sums up how i've been livin since 02

I believe in the whole concept of karma. I also believe that thinks happen for a reason, no matter how bad or good they are, in order for something better to happen in life.

To me, life is purely negative, well atleast in our modern times with all the hardships the average person faces. We should cherish every happy and comfortable moment we can and know that sooner or later we'll be completely miserable. This is cynical but it helps you be happier during situations/whatever.

"Live for free" - Abbie Hoffman, Steal this Book.

But right now I seem to be in the same situation as holy roller.

such a good book... i do most of what i says.. but most of it is hippie shit...

a better title would be "how to be homeless and survive"

but yeah good book

Yeah +100

Confuciusism, Daoism, Buddhism and Hinduism all have some really well thought out stuff. Can't say I follow any one wholly, but there's elements of truth in them all.

Plato was a cool dude, too.

yeah... i dont follow them religiously.. just the philosophy
