Did enjoy Rampart, but "based on a true story" is the biggest marketing scheme in movies.

As far as this movie is concerned it means that there was once a cop and he probably punched a guy in a wheelchair once.

For example, this craptacular kids film is based on the True Story of these two dogs.

Not sure if I posted this earlier (based on recos from this board.)

The pusher trilogy is different.

The only way to explain the movies is they are similar to Bad Lieutenant.

You follow a scumbag around for a day while they balance crime, crew & family... and their hustle in life starts to unravel hour by hour.

propped, but i dont agree with the bad lieutenant parallel entirely.

I'd call these flicks genuinely influenced by the works of tarantino

but without biting his style at any point. what you have here is just

a classic crime story, some true "pulp" filmmaking. they are tales

of the underworld and the stuggles of the denizens that inhabit it.

Refn said in an interview that in Pusher, what he wanted to created was simply

a story about a man put under extreme pressure and how he reacts to it.

I dont disagree that its got similarities to bad lietenant, but saying its about

a dudes hustle unraveling isnt doing Refns skill for building tension any justice.

it definitely shows things unraveling for them, but then again thats the premise

for virtually any crime film- no, ANY film. Pusher was great to see after watching

Drive because it showed how, 15 years after his debut, with no formal education

in filmmaking, he possess talent that trumps the majority of the bullshit were

bombarded with today.
