swif1
Fuck that shit. I went cold turkey and am fine. The funny thing is that I never had chest pains, but then again, a pack lasts four to six days for me.
Milton
I need to fucking quit too. I'm thinking of quitting after today. Ya, fuck that, today is my last day of smoking until finals. RumPuncher will hold me to that shit. [No Homo]

RumPuncher
I'm going to be living proof of the 'you have to want it' statement. that's why I say just stop when you cant, dont plan it in advance. Dont make excuses like 'I've got a busy time at work' or some bullshit. There is no 'try', only 'do' or 'do not'.

RumPuncher
DAY TWO I just woke up with a strange new sensation (not morningwood) I'm breathing easily though my nose. no congestion at all. Feels great!
Herbivore
I've heard the patch works wonders with curbing cravings... but that shit is expensive. After about 8 years of moderate smoking (half a pack to a pack per day) I'm starting to lose interest in it. Aside from when I'm drinking, I pretty much just smoke because it's part of my daily routine, not because I genuinely want to. I'm starting to see just how gross of a habit it really is. I don't think I'll ever be able to not smoke when I'm drinking, though.
Dirty_habiT
well good, this thread is inspiring... I may give it another go at quitting here soon.. I mean, I inspired people to get pagers, now I'm being inspired to quit smoking....
RumPuncher
hey herbs, you dont need the patch. 3 days after you have your last smoke, the nic levels in your blood hit zero. Easy. Why bother keeping some nic in your system beyond those 3 days if you dont need to? The full patch system is 10 weeks long. then again, if the patch helps people quit, it's a good thing. I think the success rate is about the same for all the methods. once again, anyone who's seriously thinking about quitting: http://whyquit.com/ - the some great info there that puts it in a realisic erspective. Herbivore
I've tried quitting before without the aid of the patch, gum, etc. and found it extremely difficult. Then again, I didn't really want to quit, I just knew that I should. After about a day of not smoking I was in the worst mood ever, and all I wanted was a cigarette, so I caved. I figure the patch would help make me less irritable, and therefore less likely to just say "fuck it" and light up.

RumPuncher
I dont know guys, I think that withdrawl symptoms and cravings are blown out of proportion. I'm on day two, and if I think of a smoke, I just stop what I'm doing and take a few deep breaths. Craving gone. but again - whyquit.com has some great info. RumPuncher
stick it out man. another quote: "Many people get only one urge a day, a week or even a month. They last only seconds. In essence, the cravings last only 20 seconds a week while the other 10,060 seconds ex-smokers are overjoyed by the fact that they quit."
GucciCondom
I'm thinking of quitting sometime very soon. I picture a fat redneck mother fucker driving around in a Rolls Royce getting paid off of me dying. This thought makes me want to quit almost instantly. I think if I get through a couple days then I will be fine because I'm the type of cat where when my mind is fucking with me I can easily shrug it off so if I know there is no more nicotine in me then it is just my mind fucking around wanting a smoke. I had my last smoke monday night, then went to bed. I woke up Tuesday morning, and held my pack of smokes (about 15 left) under the faucet to give them a good soaking. Then I tossed them in the trash along with all my lighters, matches and ashtrays. Garbage went out last night, so that should be the end of that. Done. Your in a stressfull situation AND you're havign nicoteen withdrawl. You smoke, so the withdral isn't an issue, but the stress is exactly the same.
