SMdoubleXL
Leaving on Saturday to drive back to Vegas The last few cross country trips have involved moving back and fucking forth. Either way, we have camped all of the above times and are doing it again. When you camp during a move-you know you have everything you will ever need in the move truck. This time is strictly for driving and camping so I gotta pack right. The main purpose of this trip to sit retrieve them ole ugly dawgs we had to leave back in Vegas while we get established once again. these guys. Sammy and Bella. I am also cutting my vaca short and flying back early because I can’t get coverage at work. I’m not too entirely happy about that but outta my control. Im currently at home cookin chili. Gonna freeze that to take along and layin out some stuff, cleaning our camp ware and such. I do better with visuals. I’m taking a Dutch oven this time so I’m gonna play around with just a few things. Recipes welcome. we’re tent/air mattress/ sleep bags type campers. We like to forage our firewood and build a fire for warmth and food. We take propane for our lil quick burner. And just in case. so far it looks like we’ll head down towards St. Louis and find a good spot to hang for a day. North Platte has become a favorite stop when we do this drive so we will head that way after. We will aim for two nights there most likely. We like to do some mushrooms and wander. And I usually end up naked in every place I can. Hah. we’ll cut over and aim for Donner’s pass. I haven’t been there in a long ass time. Possibly camp round there and then drive down to Vegas. It’s not a bad drive. Lotsa odd shit to see for sure. kick it in Vegas til I have to fly back. so far. 😎 Thread is made for any and all advice. Stories. . Travel spot sharing. I will def be posting pics. Post yours too! 3
Mercer
If you're coming down I-80 through Wyoming (I-70 through Colorado is shut down) let me know when you're getting close to Laramie/Cheyenne and I'll try to come through. I'm picking up extra popcorn for this thread, can't wait to see the photos. 2
SMdoubleXL
I’m pretty sure that is the path we will take. @Mercer I don’t think we go into (or at least planning on not) CO. usually we do so I can touch base in my home town in Utah but not this time. This is the last west coast vacation in a long time. I wanna see the goods over here. like lighthouses n shit. East coast beaches. good looks on the heads up about the 70.
SMdoubleXL
When I visit other cities there are a few things I will Google to see if they have and it will most likely be a must stop I search for -botanical gardens -sculpture gardens -Japanese tea gardens. and whatever Google can throw at me when I search “odd things to see in or around “city” One drive here-bout this time of year, 2016. Our first drive East. (To help the kid pack up after graduation and working summer job-and convoy back to Vegas) we stopped at some rest stop. Made up a game called-“how far can you walk into that corn field before being scared enough to walk out” he went first. He turned around as soon as he got near it. Said he saw someone walk out with a lit cigarette in his mouth an walk back in. we figured it had to have been a lightning bug or something. (You don’t see those in Vegas) I stopped playing at that moment. same trip driving back we popped a Molly as soon as we got on the road, leaving Pittsburgh. We drive all the way to Bransen, MO with one small stop to try to nap. At that stop we also played “how far into the fog can you go before turning around”. While on molly. we both succeeded with a heart pounding quick fog walk. 1
mr.yuck
That’s fun. We play a similar game of how deep into the woods are you willing to go off the trail. A few years ago we came across two women who had been lost in the woods for 3 days. We brought them back to our camp and fed them. We drove them back to where their car was and it was literally like an hour drive through the mountains.
SMdoubleXL
I didn’t get a lot of pics (quality) of our first country camp drive. This was our first time moving to Pittsburgh so we just had a little budget truck. Arranged so when we opened the back door everything we would need was just right there. must sees along the way for me- bridal veil falls, utah On the way back home. A small ass town called Roosevelt, Utah. Horse country. Pretty much a 50/50 Caucasian: Ute Indian. This statue has been there since I can remember. I think it’s had a recent paint job. It was in front of a trading post. I’m not sure what is behind it now childhood home randy the goat another mandatory stop. The pink dinosaur in Vernal, Utah. My birth town. The order of the next few make no sense to me but I know we were trying to avoid going over too high of a summit over the Rockies. While trying to see a few things this was our first camp set up in North Platte. at the end of august camp sites arent too crowded and the weather was super fare so we chose a good time of year. (I hadn’t been camping since I was a child) next stop was a place Rock Creek State Park in Iowa. Fun lil spot. Boat rentals and such. was kinda when we arrived but the next morning most had cleared out. We decided to stay another day. For insight - the second night here was my first night without any opioids. Buck creek state park in Ohio way cool lil area to tuck our tent into. However. The area also had a lot of spiders that kept us locked in that tent as soon as the sun set. raccoon State park.pa. QUICKLY realized why it was called that. You could hear them lil savages rummaging all night in everyone’s shit who did lock it up. Like you could hear them immediately outside the tent. these are just a few I found from that trip. I didn’t take many others and they were with an older iPhone. This was 2017. we drive all over Pittsburgh the next day viewing apts and decided on one and immediately moved in the next day to the upstairs joint here 3

mr.yuck
The Appalachian trail in Virginia is treacherous. All the trail markers are fucked up. We took a group of kids on what was supposed to be a real easy mile hike. That shit turned into a 7 or 8 mile journey once we got onto the wrong path. It’s easy to get off the hiking trail and start following a deer trail. All of a sudden your dead. 3

SMdoubleXL
This is when we had to move back to Vegas. Two years later. October 2019. I was an absolute emotional wreck. This was our first stop just because I was having a breakdown and don’t wanna be anywhere. Some shitty busy campsite. But the location was funny. Especially when Google maps says it 1 1
SMdoubleXL
2nd go at this spot in North Platte. it was getting cocked out. we did mushrooms here and I just remember walking around and admiring how perfect the trees were the north Platte empty campsite His view

I do something similar but more of a sensory/meditational deal, like being on a trail and closing my eyes while walking a certain number of steps. A question though. How did you know they weren't tweekers on a hustle? I'm not trying to be funny or sht like that. I've just thought about that from time to time while hiking in and around my area. Turns out they were army and just straight up got twisted on those wack ass trails. They got lost to the point where they didn’t even have a bearing to find their way back to where they came from. 2

I dubbed it “the nap hall” because you could close you eyes and walk about 53 (my steps) before the next door No way to hurt yourself in this hallway. one day someone farted in this hall and I was was offended for days. SMdoubleXL
After I got settled in my apt he loaded up the budget and headed this way. We had a few extra days and just took it camping. Just overnight at Raccoon state park. It’s close here. (Plus we have no car) when we arrived it started POURING. We didn’t unpack our stuff yet so we just kicked it in the back of the truck until it passed. Was not mad at this at all. view from inside tent It was mid July. The temp was perfect for sleeping outdoors There was a large pond/small lake at the end of a trail. It had a small island of floating vegetation (I hope video plays. It’s a time lapse of that floating veg island) IMG_2771.MOV At one point I knew what this insect was Upon leaving we noticed we had a widow maker in the canopy above us. bonus: the view as you enter Pittsburgh immediately coming out of a tunnel. It is kinda breathtaking in person and super easy to fall in love with 5
One Man Banned
Useless fact, if life grows on the top and bottom it's a pond, if only on the top it's a lake (sunlight reaches top/bottom of a pond but not the bottom of a lake). Mercer
That's useful info. I plan on building a series of ponds, and lakes and this information will make me look more credible with the contractors who will still probably rip me off. 2 2
