pornbooth
Portland police on Thursday arrested a 53-year-old man who reportedly turned himself in as the driver in a Jan. 28 hit-and-run that killed a Vancouver pedestrian, Jason Lee Grant. The Traffic Division of the Portland Police Bureau took Jim Dean Patterson of Portland to the Multnomah County Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of alleged aggravated vehicular homicide, according to a bulletin issued about 5 p.m. Thursday. Patterson is being held on $500,000 bail. Police said Patterson appeared at the Eastport Plaza East Precinct Office about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and turned himself in. Traffic Unit investigators also released more information about the crash Thursday, saying that Grant, 26, had been walking across Southeast Foster Road from north to south near 70th Avenue, about 7 p.m., and was not in a crosswalk, when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle whose driver fled the scene, leaving Grant to die. It’s unclear why Patterson allegedly failed to stop and help Grant, Portland police Lt. Robert King said Thursday night. Investigators also discovered in Patterson’s garage a green 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup with front-end damage that matched the description police had released before Patterson’s arrest, the bulletin said. Police earlier had told news reporters the pickup’s radiator might have been damaged in the crash, adding that they found a large amount of radiator fluid at the crash scene. As officers took Patterson into custody on Thursday, other investigators were heading for Patterson’s home to check out a tip given to the Crime Stoppers program. Police thanked news outlets for their extensive coverage of the crime, and said many tips came in. Patterson saw the coverage on TV, police said, adding that coverage had a role in his turning himself in. “It sounds like his conscience, fortunately, got the better of him,” King said. Tavaruawon
Not to hijack your shit, but I don't start threads. My best friend, Leabs. http://www.times-standard.com/ci_19846829?source=most_viewed Woman dies after being ejected from car near Petrolia; alcohol may be factor in fatal accident Donna Tam/The Times-Standard Posted: 01/29/2012 01:59:06 AM PST A woman died Friday night after being ejected from a car after it overturned near Petrolia. CHP Sgt. Doug Tupin said the incident, which occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Mattole Road west of North Fork Road, is still under investigation. Olyvia Martinez, 28, of Livermore, Calif., was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla toward Petrolia at about 40 mph when she drove to the right of the roadway, through a wire fence and down a grassy slope, according to CHP. The car overturned, and Martinez was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Humboldt County Deputy Coroner Roy Horton said Martinez died from blunt force trauma. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Her passenger, Tyler Elder, 24, of Eureka, was wearing his seatbelt and he sustained minor cuts and bruises. ”He survived because he had his seatbelt on,” Horton said. Martinez was in the area visiting friends, he said. Alcohol intoxication may have been a factor, according to the initial CHP report. Horton said there were empty wine bottles at the scene. The Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. This happened a week ago today. I'm still in absolute fucking shock. You guys have no idea how beautiful of a person this girl was. Normally I'm callous and cold to things like this- drunk driving and what can happen as a result. But this is a wake the fuck up call. She was on her way to a hotel room suite that me and my boy had rented for the evening. All of us needed a day off of 'work' and she never made it. There are circumstances to this shit that have me fucking floored. Agh. I dunno, will share a bit more later when I drink the feelings away. Maybe. Tavaruawon
Just saying, if you were to get the call. You know- 'the call'. A first responder at the fucking scene telling you that a friend was dead because of some shit like that. Of all the people, friends, family, and acquaintances that I have. This was the last person, the absolute last fucking person... that I would have expected to have this happen to. And most definitely the last to deserve it. anything goes
RIP to your friends. They found an old friend of mine in a well last week. 3 dudes robbed him for some pocket change, shot him and dumped his body in some vacant property. My friend was a community activist and local business owner. He'd been missing since early September. The spawn of the 90's crack epidemic is running rampant in my city,

crime stoppers
Too many people dying these days as a result of drink driving or vehicles in general, whatever side of the wheel they're on. Condolences for everyones losses, my friends dad died by driving into the back end of a semi because he was talking on his phone, from that day on I vowed I'd never fuck around with cars when drunk or fucked up. Realism
Well, if you can die in a car crash completely sober as a result of doing something as mundane as talking on the phone, it stands to reason that the risk is even bigger getting behind the wheel wasted. DRUNK DRIVING DEBATE THREAD HAVEN'T HAD ONE IN YEARS WHERE'S EDOGGG?? And RIP to your friend, pornbooth.

12packprophet
Well, if you can die in a car crash completely sober as a result of doing something as mundane as talking on the phone Just like driving while talking on the phone is "mundane" to a lot of people, so is driving while drunk to others. Just like how some people crash into the back of semis just because they're talking on the phone, doesn't mean most people can't talk on the phone while driving. The same goes for driving drunk. It's always the idiots who ruin it for the rest of us.

12packprophet
^You take a stance on how it's ok to talk on your phone or text while driving because most people can pull it off yet some idiots ruin it for the rest, while at the same time arguing that it's somehow different when it comes to driving drunk and that nobody at all can drive drunk without fucking up and we'll have ourselves an argument. Drue_Down
Well we need multiple players here. I wouldn't dream of kicking this off without fictional personas of: Asian Woman Asian woman Man who aggressively drives a minivan Poor person with no sense of discipline (usually driving a shitty car that isn't roadworthy) Under aged rookie And whoever else you think is necessary. I prefer to be the douchebag who thinks he is invincible and the rest of the World is retarded... But I'm sure we'll instead start the argument over who gets the right to represent that segment.
