I'm heading to Japan at the end of September and will be hitting up Osaka, Kyoto and probably out to Nara. Anyone got any suggestions on things to do?

I'm going to the Raman Noodle Museum in Osaka because I'd never forgive myself if I missed that shit, and booking in to get some work done @ 'Cat Claw' in Kyoto. If anyone has any suggestions on crazy shit I have to try let us know

kthxbai

(the chicks with the beer and cucumbers make me lol)

in kyoto check out the monkey park. has an awesome view of the city at the top

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iwatayama_Monkey_Park

also check out all the temples around the area-kinkakuji was a stand out for myself.

osaka is great to just walk around and leave your mark on things, its quiter then tokyo. it has some great malls/shops so check them out.

last but not least LEMON WATER

Cheers for the heads up s4t4n - I found out about the monkey park randomly the other day and its now on the list (no way I'm missing a park full of monkeys!) and I'm going to check out the bamboo forest while out that way. Lemon water? am I over thinking this and its simply just water with lemon in it? or am i missing the bigger picture? I'll post picks when I get back

I'm not sure, but my last NYE in Seoul was frigid as fuck and those retards don't know how to shoot fireworks into the air. They lit them and just held the roman candles horizontal so they were blasting kids in the head and creating pandemonium in the crowd.

I'm sure some badass parties will be happening in whatever city you will be in.

go to a temple wait in line and pull a bell

108

they dont really do anything like NY times square or anything.

i think i remember going to a club in yokohama one year

i got drunk, didnt get lucky and went to sleep

in front of a closed gas station. i'm pretty cool like that.

its not cold in tokyo or osaka 35-40 degrees F

hokkaido is a different story however

maybe go to nagano and do some winter sports??.

I read up on the temple, it doesn't really seem like the way I had envisioned my new years.

I'm more of a bring the fuckin ruckus kind of guy

i wasn't really suggesting that waiting in a long line just to ring a bell was a good idea.

its the only thing that i can think of that is unique to jp

other than that what really is there to do anywhere on new years that is any different

from any other day of the week?

DO NOT TRY AND TO GO THE HARAJUKU TEMPLE FOR NEW YEARS. At least at night.

Unless you're extremely focused on getting there, you'll get bored of waiting in line after half an hour. I'd find a temple out in the country for the morning of New Year's day. Not nearly as busy and you'll probably get some sake.

A lot of foreigners go to the hachiko exit at shibuya station.

Edit: and as for nightclubs and bars, they vary from place to place. Shibuya and roppongi have all the "normal clubs" where it doesn't cost much to get in and you can act like an idiot and no one cares because they're all acting like idiots too. If you want a little more high class, I'd go to Omotesando or Aoyama. Shibuya does have a few nice places, but they're a little bit harder to find.
