Re: Great Pictures~

NYC has been dumping their old wagons in the ocean for a longgggg time now. They have put together this program with the help of sea life experts, and have conducted studies of the effects it had before going full throttle with it. Within weeks, sea life was abondant and a lot of creatures found a home in those wagons. Experts have found only positive results up to now. They are also very open and transparent with this project, there's plenty of documentation and shows that have been made on this.

But i guess its easier to stay ignorant and just bark at them at the first chance you get. Would you prefer them to send the old wagons to be melted in some metal plant and then bark about how these types of plants polute the air and water with toxic waste?!?!?

since when does sea life need a home provided by humans? since when are coral reefs generated by old subway trains? what 'creatures' live in these trains, exactly?

and no, i wouldn't prefer the old wagons to be melted in some metal plant. reconfiguring them to make housing for NYC's homeless would be just fine, thanks.

also if you have any links to sites of these 'experts' and their 'positive results', in 'plenty of documentation', i'd love to read them.

Since we started fucking it all up by dredging too deep, polluting the waters through heavily international goods transporting, not to mention drilling, and over fishing due to our greed as humans who feel they deserve anything they want no matter what season or region.

So yes, it's good that someone is doing something to help rebuild and sustain the shit we fuck up.

Disposing of obsolete subway cars in the ocean to create habitats for marine life and recreational fishing exemplifies a creative solution by Asset Recovery to sensitive disposal issues. NYC Transit has provided more than 2,500 retired subway cars to Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, Delaware, New Jersey and Maryland. NYC Transit steam cleaned the subway cars after stripping them of components that float (oils, solids, etc.) and decompose. Then the cars were loaded on barges and "buried" at sea

Also a video on the page. First website on a google search for "NYC transit cars used for reef"

It's not that hard......

from that site:

Sustainable Development

Sustainable development supports the idea of maintaining healthy, natural systems and supporting financial growth simultaneously. Learn how NYC Transit has promoted sustainability, balancing our transportation system with the eco-system.

uh-huh.

and here we have an artificial coral reef.looks like a sea lion on the right hand side there. i'm still a bit skeptical tbh. not trying to derail this thread though, cos i love it.

Re: Great Pictures~

spit pretty much summed it up. as if there aren't probably a hundred or more organizations dedicated to housing NYCs homeless and even more organizations concerned with sea life prosperity so the bottom line is its just an interesting way to dispose of the cars...and nobody gives a shit

Re: Great Pictures~

hahaha, lets just throw homeless people in old subway cars and forget about the clean sanitary environments NYC provides for them where helping them out and providing treatment is possible.

Instead of a cafeteria we can give them old barrels to start fires in and cook garbage over it on a stick and they can bumfight each other to see who gets to sleep in which subway car.
