So yeah.

Its Veterans Day and I'm a bit drunk and sentimental.

I'm pretty pissed I can't find any pics from the last 4 months of deployment.

I was there in 2009/2010 in Kandahar. We mostly were running border patrol operations along Pakistan, you can see the PS on the mountains in a couple of the pics.

I'm not going to post any gore or fucked up shit.

Shops like this are scattered along the highways, hot fucking soda and random weird shit. A dollar will buy you a lot.

Probably the best architecture seen, everything that was once great in the south was destroyed by the ruskies and now they are all pretty simple

I never got an explanation as to why they wrap their tires. This is a small load. I've seen a couple that get stacked so high that when they pull onto the shoulder for us they end up falling completely on their side. Lulz were had by all...

There was always a bolo for a man on a red scooter. There are thousands upon thousands of red scooters over there. Very rarely did any info from MI benefit us at all. This one didn't blow up, but later one did. We didn't know what happened until our Platoon Sergeant was like "Oh, I see a head, I think it was a suicide bomber. He gave his life to give us a flat tire...

As a climber I wish this place wasn't so fucked, such amazing mountains/faces/rocks in general. Great rock too, sticky sharp granites and not as much sandstone as you'd think

This is a DVE, its what your driver has to drive at night when you're rolling black out. You have zero depth perception. a 6 inch drop can look like 10 feet and a 6 foot drop can look like nothing. Lots of real near misses for accidents, a couple almost rollovers, and lots of pain from getting jarred on a drop you didn't expect.

I wish I'd had a better camera or been a better photographer. These next few are of the Red Desert. These photos don't capture it but the sand is a deep red orange. Its eery to see, It clashes with its environment.

The only people in this thread who chose to live there were the people who willfully signed up for the military to go over there and kill the people who lived there.

I agree with you that the people that are living there now didn't choose to be born there but at some point in human history people chose those particular valleys and plains to settle in. That's the bit that I don't understand, and of course I'm being irrationally simplistic in the way I'm looking at it. And for the record, I have no problem with the Taliban being eradicated from the face of this planet. I'm not going to comment on the 'legitimacy' of the ISAF operations as I don't have a position either way - mainly because I don't have enough clear and conclusive information to have a credible opinion. However I am more than happy to see any kind of extremist that forces their views on others being removed from existence, regardless of what their views are.

America/Occident are forcing their views on the Afghani people by invading and killing all who oppose them.

/it's a double edged dildo--everybody is getting fucked here.

Oh so much, and the soil in spring time there is phenomenal. Traction and braking would be ridiculous. Just enough mud to be fun, not enough to bog you down.

I don't think I have any pics, but one mission we did that was in a Grand Canyon scale wadi that had goat trails all over the sides. I told my Commander that I wanted to request a mission where we set security and the top and bottom and let me ride a few lines, with a Stryker shuttling me back up. Obviously he denied the request.
