CLICKCLACKONER
What does Terry Richardson have anything to do with art in the streets? Honest question.

Poesia [ ] T
This is very thorough documentation of art in the streets from the trains and hobo documentation to street art but mostly graffiti. There are alot of people like the fun gallery owners, photographers anyone that had a dealing in documenting or shaping the history. This will be on a huge scale im talking building full installations like the recreation of Rammellzzee Tribeca studio, to full scale buses bombed, trucks, and possibly ive heard rumors of a full heaven by revok. IHATEU
my favorite part is how there are huge graffiti icons such as say skeme or greg lamarche or porn (just to name a few) that are left out but people who NEVER did graffiti are in it, ie. gonz and templeton and richardson? wtf has he done for graffiti if you want to include a "in crowd" photographer that has actually DOCUMENTED graffiti should have been Ari Marcopoulos... what a blunder... dont get too excited about this documenting "our culture"... from what i have seen so far some of the installations are cool but nothing ground breaking imo... i would post photos but for sure a shit storm would ensue from involved parties... substanceOVERhype
looks to me like a cool guys gathering then throw in a bunch of OG's to certify it. HISTORY................ HIS STORY. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
substanceOVERhype
Organizing something like this is good, but claiming it to be something it is not, is comical. They should call it "big ass art show with alot of writers and some really cool guys who know people" not anything with the wording "anyone who ever made any impact" because theres hundreds being left out and an unnachievable goal to even attempt. CLICKCLACKONER
i'd say there's way more og's than "cool guys" but what do i know. i will be seeing this in the bk museum next year.

Maybe you should read the link a little better. Its the history of graffiti and street art from the 70s.
substanceOVERhype
then 75% of that list shouldnt be on it.
CLICKCLACKONER
agreed on both counts. @substanceoverhype. @iou, i don't think ihateu is missing the point at all.

Poesia [ ] T
Here is the best article so far on how and why deitch picked who he did. Also Roger Gastman was a co-curator and he just put out the new book history of graffiti which also could be argued. http://www.laweekly.com/2011-04-07/art-books/street-art-at-moca/ One thing i will say is that I am a whole lot more relieved that this is the lineup than what has been shown in galleries the last 10 years, you should hear how much the street artists are bitching about the lineup as it seemed graffiti prevailed over street art in the amount of artists that where represented. Your never going to get something this big right but i think this is pretty damn close for a first attempt.
injury
I'd rather see crew-wide exhibitions, by someone besides msk/7th letter. Like a TGE exhibition, an RIS exhibition.
CLICKCLACKONER
I rarely visit galleries, i think i went to 1 in the past 5 years...but it seems to me that street artists (banksy, mbw, etc.) get a lot more press and rep in the west coast then they do on the east coast. IHATEU
I see the point, but I'm just not as jaded as everyone else to be honest. I'm glad that is the case. well judging by your first comment you didnt get the point AT ALL... and im not jaded but im a actual graffiti writer who knows what is what... to promote this as THE graffiti show and include some of the people in it is a slap in the face to a few that were left out who were EXTREMELY impactful to graffiti. just call this an art show and not the History of Graffiti art show and i would not have any complaints at all...
