There are local guys but it's one of those things where you might make yourself available to surrounding states or further because really, how many dudes you know who fight forest fires? morton Posted January 25, 2021 Share Posted January 25, 2021 Not many and there are not really any population base in lots of areas that burn but the jobs are not well paying enough, I don't think, to attract Australian labor. I have known two dudes who fought fires, one of them was pretty funny. He always had a notebook with him and would write down goals and ideas in it all day long. Generally the government sends a bunch (in all honestly probably more symbolic than anything). When you see big bushfires in australia like you would have seen last winter all those 1000'sm fo firefighters were almost all volunteers. A few of these guys probably do it for the free trip to America and because it's probably fun driving round on the bigger trucks you guys drive. Plus at the end of the fire you hit the local bars, lay on the aussie accent a bit thicker, enjoy the free beers and try and fuck any really grateful ladies you come across.
