morton
Shrimp rolls you say, nice to have the option beyond the typical pork. Not that there is anything wrong with a fried pork roll. 1
morton
Typical walk through the Flats Underside of the Nickel Plate Railroad, which at one ran from Chicago to Cleveland To Buffalo, now part of Norfolk Southern. https://case.edu/ech/articles/n/nickel-plate-road The arch at center frame is the Detroit-Superior bridge. When I first arrived in Cleveland I noticed that locals called it "the longest bridge in the world" saying that it went all the way from Cuba to Africa, referring to the historic segregation in Cleveland whereas Blacks were not allowed on the West Side of the river. Apart from the rather odd choice of Cuba representing the White part of town I always wondered why the longest bridge in the world would not be the Carnegie Lorain bridge to the south as it much more clearly jumps the racial divide unlike the Detroit Superior which terminates downtown, hardly a genuine Black part of town. I looked it up today and it turns out that when build the Detroit Superior bridge was actually the longest steel reinforced concrete bridge in the world at its completion, I now see that the turn of phrase has more than one origin. A little closer. Back in time. https://case.edu/ech/articles/v/veterans-memorial-bridge Some pretty typical Cleveland graffiti, not burners, but more thoughtfully done than typical to Seattle now a days where the buff has crushed the spirit and even veteran hands look like toys in a hurry. lol, this is how Cleveland lets you know the walkway is closed, miss the message and down you go. Foreground is the now abandoned W&LE RR Freight Depot, directly behind is the Federal Building, wonder who was working there tonight to facilitate the presidential debate highlighted by the red white and blue lights on the iconic Terminal Tower in the background, which was at time of its construction the second tallest building in the world and stood as the tallest building outside of New York from 1930 at its completion to 1964. It is named for the railroad station that was at its base. https://case.edu/ech/articles/w/wheeling-lake-erie-railroad 2
Dark_Knight
The cargo kid has been impressive. Clean and simple. Also appreciate your posts on the history of the city of Cleveland. Never knew about the racial divide representation of the Detroit superior bridge. 7 minutes ago, morton said: Some pretty typical Cleveland graffiti, not burners, but more thoughtfully done than typical to Seattle now a days where the buff has crushed the spirit and even veteran hands look like toys in a hurry. morton
If you are interested in learning more about Cleveland's history regarding race I recommend Ballots and Bullets: Black Power Politics and Urban Guerrilla Warfare in 1968 Cleveland by James D. Robenalt. It is of course available at the venerable Cleveland Public Library but given the recent fascination with race it may be be a while to check out. Another good look at race, first the national situation in the first half and Parma in the second is The Suburban Racial Dilemma: Housing and Neighborhoods W. DENNIS KEATING https://www.ballotsandbullets.com/ Another fun read, not related to race and more apropos to our good neighbors in Pittsburgh is Meet You in Hell: Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and the Bitter Partnership That Changed America https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4717704 1

Higher elevations are getting dusted and supposed to hit the valley this week. Probably won’t stick, but still a little on the early side.
