I know it isn't "high end" denim, but....

I picked up my first pair of Levi's Shrink to Fit 501's

What's best to do?

Soak and wear 'em dry?

Or never washthem, and febreeze/ hang on clothesline.

Thus is a rookie question, i know...

They're fuckin Way too big and could use a shrink,

But i dont want to lose the raw/rigid coloring right away.

Hot soak for 40 minutes to an hour and they should shrink the length will also shrink 2 inches so hopefully you got the a little longer or sag them shits. Try wearing them as much as possible for at least 3 months then do your next soak or regular wash and you should start seeing whiskers, honeycombs, etc.

eeeek! never ever dry, let alone HOT dry.

wear them shits in the shower or into a lake/creek... and dont wash them until you REALLY need too. thats how you will get illing whiskers...

also the stiffness will be outro as soon as any hot water touche them. are they raw? i dont know much about levis other then one premium pair i have but those are raw and were made mega limited in like 2004.

ya i dont put any jeans in the dryer.

These are raw. I can easily wear em for a while, i dont mind the stiffness, i think my only concern is that I ordered larger, as per instructions, and theyre fuckin huge.

i think I just gotta sack up and wear em daily for a solid month and take it from there.

someone told me that before i spend money on nice denim, to buy a pair of levi's STF in order to see/feel/experience how real denim wears, breaks in, and develops.

oh ok if they are raw your all set. if they are too big for you then wear them in the shower with HOT water. they will loose a bit of stifness but thats the cheap way and it will get your whiskering on the move.

the BEST way to get them to fit exactly as you like is to go get them tailored. worth every penny man.

all the other tricks mentioned are more for feel and wearing them in. all of my jeans have some sort of tailoring and even one fit to me from cut...

I have a few pair of nice jeans. I have Proportion of Blu, Surface to Air, and Idoc Radec. All three are great jeans. The cut on the PoB jeans is the best to me. It's got room were it counts, a slim leg and a bit of stretch. They are Japanese raw indigo (loom woven? I forget.) denim, so they are kinda ridged but at the same time are super comfortable.

The Surface to Air denim is awesome but its a little skinny for me. It's a super comfortable, soft japanese denim jean. Overall S2A is one of my favorite companies.

Thanks for the contributors in this thread. It has definitely helped me gain some knowledge in the denim game. It sucks there aren't any shops around here that I can try on pants. The best I can do is shop on Self Edge and examine the measurements and/or buy pants and do exchanges like a mafucka. Time to do moar researching! Whoop whoop!

Thanks for the heads up, guys! From the sound of things, are the both of you saying the Japanese have a stronghold in the market in a bad way?

I just did a quick Google search for Japanese denim and clicked on the following:

http://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/ (This is obviously a company that put in work in the SEO department)

http://www.authenticforum.com/dry-denim/52167-what-japanese-denim.html

http://blog.denimgeek.com/archives/208

http://hypebeast.com/2011/01/the-history-success-of-japanese-denim-momotaro-jeans/

For the most part, it's just praise. To be more specific, are you implying that the Japanese (companies) essentially saturated the denim market making it difficult for smaller companies to get by? As you can tell, I'm not well-versed with this industry but I am very curious to know more about it.
