He is talking about the WTO, World Trade Organisation. Their meeting always attract huge riots and has nothing to do the former World Trade Center 9-11 deal...

What a great thread!

The pics of the Arsenal fans are the best, that guy in the blue died tho so rip.

I was in an Arsenal riot when we won the league and cup double in 98.

A couple of streets down from the ground there was big trouble, bottles flying glass breaking cars getting flipped, fire.

Police on horses people running, basically everyone going out of their minds.

I remember being scared, you have no idea if a bottle is about to hit you in the head.

I was involved in a footie riot when Nottingham Forest beat Sheffield Wednesday in 1989 and sent us down to Division 2. And by involved I mean I just watched since I was only 7 years old. Shit was hectic, window smashing, car tipping, bats to heads......badass.

I remember when the G8 summit was held here a couple years back and everyone was expecting a huge riot. It never happened though, probably due to the Apache helicopters and 24 hour lockdown they put on us......

I've been in several, back in the Sixties

But none since about 1983, not even a demonstration. Back in 1967, I was in several big punch-ups at "peace marches" and "anti-war marches" here in Houston, where the crowd veered off the parade route and went down Main Street. The cops were pissed, but there were ten thousand marchers, and so they just let us go wherever we wanted. The Klan tried to stop us, and a big brawl broke out between the Klan, the Revolutionary Communist Party, the Trots and the anarchists. The Klansters were much better fighters than we were, but each one of them was fighting like five or six anarchists or RCPers, so they got their asses kicked. I can't fault them for cowardice though, they didn't run. Later in the '70s, in Greensboro, S.C. (I wasn't there) the Klan had a shoot-out with the RCP and the commies got the shit shot out of them.

I was in a couple of big demos in California where the cops basically went nuts and attacked the demonstrators. We fought the American Nazi Party in L.A. in 1971 at MacArthur Park (I think). The Nazis arrived in two Army duece-and-a-halfs marked with big swastikas on the doors, in khaki uniforms and combat boots, with matching white motorcycle helmets and riot sticks. There were maybe fifty of them, against 10,000 pissed-off hippie demonstrators. The LAPD had to protect the Nazis from the crowd, which is what the Nazis knew would happen. So here they are, screaming "Communists! Faggots! Traitors!" at us, surrounded by scared shitless cops, and about a thousand anarchists with black and red flags are shouting "NA-ZIs OUT! NA-ZIs OUT!" "KILL THE NAZIS!" Again, they must be crazy. If the cops had run, the Nazis would have been ripped to pieces by the crowd. This one cop was pointing a pump shotgun at me, and I shouted "You've only got four rounds!" and he shouted back, "I only need one for you!" That was pretty sobering. Later on, I was thinking "What the fuck am I doing here? If that cop had panicked, I'd be dead as a canned mackeral." And for what?

None of our heroics made one fucking bit of difference. When it was politically expedient, Nixon ended the draft. Within a couple of months, the anti-war movement VAPORIZED. All of us hard-core anarchists would show up at a demo, and there would be like 1,000 radicals, 50 Nazis and 5,000 cops. And no straight people.

Fuck political actions. They are a waste of time and risk. Think for your self.

There was a riot back in 1996-1997 in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cop shoots and kills a black man in the middle traffic. The black guy boosted a car and decided to go on foot which then lead to his death.

Schools were uneasy in the following days. A few fights happened. I couldn't help but watch.

I was in 7th grade.

I've actually been in a couple, all in cincinnati.

First were the race riots, an officer was accquited of murder after he shot a black kid.

So pretty much any white person who even drove through downtown (where I lived) would get their car smashed to pieces and/or attacked.

The mayor issued a city-wide curfew at 8 pm (I think) so all of the college kids at the top of the hill were having 'riot parties'. Both nights I got caught for being out past curfew. The first night I got away, but was chased by cops with canines, the 2nd night I had a shotgun pointed at my head.

The next one was when the WTO came to town. I went down to protest 'police brutality' for the sole reason that there was going to be a riot. We were walking in the street when we encountered a wall of police in full riot gear blocking the street. They ordered us to turn around and go back, so the crown turns around and there is another wall of polcie behind us telling us to turn around and go back. So we're trapped in the street with police on both sides of us screaming at us. Then they closed in and all hell broke loose. The guy next to me got clobbered with a night stick, peole were kicking back gas cans that the cops shot into the crowd. I got gassed pretty good and there were red coss people handing out vinegar soaked rags to hold over your mouth. I started running and wound up running into this parking lot that was full of all of these anarchist kids wearing black masks and chanting shit at the police. The cops came and rounded us up, searched us, cuffed us and made us shit with our backs against the walls while they stood about 3 ft in front of us with beanbag guns pointed at us. It was pretty scary. My buddy still has a few beanbags that he got hit with.

The last was a big college party that got out of hand. Kids were flipping cars over and setting furniture on fire in the street. When the cops came the kids started throwing beer cans, etc.. at them. I was having my own party one block over from where all this was going on. I met some super fine girl at mt party who wanted to go check out the riots, to I took her up there. The whole street was blockaded off so we had to tell the cops that we parked out car on the street and wanted to move it before it got set afire. I was content to just watch it from afar, but this chick I was with wasn't satisfied until she has bullets whizzing over her head, so we got right up in the action, ducking behind all kinds of shit while kids next to us were throwing rocks at the police. We got chased and ran through some backyards when some lady came out of her house and pointed a gun at us and told us to get out of her yard and not to touch anything, she had like 6 little kids looking out at us from the windows of the house......ANYWAY, after the riot had been busted up we went back to my house, which was still having a party. Since every party on the riot street has been broken up the entire crowd just wandered over to the next big crowd, which was at my house. About 15 minutes after I got back the riot police surrounded my house, had helicopters flying above w/ the spotlight on, and anyone who tried to leave the property would get arrested or hit with a beanbag. So we just finished the party inside and watched all the cops from out of the windows. That was one wild party.

sorry for the length

there was a riot at my junior high. about 100 kids were protesting something, it was something gay. And all these cops showed up and the kids paniked and ran back into the school and about 30 kids started gettin wild and knockin over trash cans! and then everyone went crazy and started running down the halls knocking over more trash cans! then a teacher opened her door real fast and she got ran over by the stampedede. a couple kids were arrested and the garbage was picked up shortly after.

I was in something small.

Februaury 2003 San Francisco Peace Rally...

There was a small un-permited march that went up Market Street.

Cops in riot gear followed.

They stopped on Market between 8th and 9th. RIGHT in front of the Ramada where I was staying..

Not much happened. The cops drew closer and closer, the horses got spooked and cops started swinging... assholes.

I booked it inside the hotel lobby, but tried to get some good pics.

Calmer..Note the "vandalism" bottom right corner.

I went back outside, despite warnings.

http://www.angryalan.com/photohost/sanfran/sf14.jpg'>

Eigth and Market.. This went on for many hours.

I went back out later and saw a kid get dragged out of the crowd for screaming at the cops.

This was right in front of me, but I didn't have my camera.. damn.

So, not much happened, no fire, no real injuries.

Just a paddy wagon, some broken windows, and really crappy graffiti.

  • 1 year later...

once i filmed one somewhere in europe, nothing real serious but there was tear gas, shit loads of riot police shooting rubber bullets, and a big crowed of kids with their shirts rapped around their faces throwing glass bottles and throwing those luggage carts and vending machines onto the train tracks (it was at a train station) then these security gaurds threw me back and said i better stay back cus the cops can shoot me. Everyone that was watching was all yelling at the police cus they were shooting rubber bullets and beating this kid with their sticks and spraying pepper spray right in his face while they were holding his shirt and he was trying to get away, then when it was all over and our train was coming so i picked up one of the rubber bullet shells and on one of the trains there was a shit load of freshly painted throwies!... anyway, thats about the worst ive ever seen, i have that video somewhere and ill post some pics.

i was about 10 when the L.A. Riots happened. i wasn't involved but i did see it firsthand and there were several stores and businesses looted and burned down just about a block from where i lived. rocks were thrown at cars of whites and koreans. so there was all this broken glass and bricks along Venice Blvd. in the Mid City District i remember... then George Bush (Sr.) ordered in national guards to patrol the streets of L.A. because the LAPD was overwhelmed. that kind of gave it a warzone feel when seeing a humvee driving down your block and dudes walking down the street in fatigues and m16's. i remember the burned down shopping center and there was this national guard crouched behind an orange dumpster with his binoculars looking across the street into the neighborhoods.
