It was quite unsavoury.” The man was asked to leave the tavern and then went to the nearby Dan Murphy’s liquor store, from which he was also evicted. Senior Constable Bleakley said when he and his first-year recruit turned up at the scene, the man was drinking outside the liquor store. As police approached, the man began “waving the animals around”. Police took the man and his guinea pigs to the police station so his identity could be established. The man was charged with public nuisance and liquor act offences. According to the Fraser Coast Chronicle, which broke the story, the guinea pigs were released without charge. “It was quite an unusual situation for us, arresting a man with two guinea pigs,” Senior Constable Bleakley said. “One of the things about general duties is from time to time you see some unusual things but this is one of the more bizarre things I’d seen.” Senior Constable Bleakley said he was disturbed by the fact the man had pushed the two animals into a milk container. He drove the man home and made sure there was somewhere suitable to keep the guinea pigs. “It was paramount to me that he had somewhere better to keep these animals,” he said. “I ended up actually giving him a big box. He told me he was in the process of buying materials to construct a cage for them.” Senior Constable Bleakley said he checked the next day to make sure the animals were okay and that they were being fed.
