<span style='color:888888'>____Pendragon Pictures' principals are concerned over a rumour that production of WAR OF THE WORLDS is about to resume on October 8th, 2003.

____Director Timothy Hines expresses dismay at the rumour, "It is absolutely not true that War of the Worlds is about to resume. The reality is that we are

massively reworking the script in the wake of the World Trade Center disaster and we will not be able to go before the cameras for a little over a year."

____The Pendragon principals lost a close friend and investor in WAR OF THE WORLDS in the World Trade Center attack.

____Timothy Hines goes on, "It has been a very difficult time for everyone. The whole world was touched by the WTC experience. We watched portions of

our fictional screenplay being played out on September 11th. I knew immediately we couldn't do War of the Worlds as conceived. It was a strange time.

I found myself weeping on the phone with Michele Jeffers at Foundation Imaging. They were great in that they wrote off some of the effects work we had

built for War of the Worlds. The fans of War of the Worlds will be very pleased with the direction we are taking, but I won't just slap it out there.

War of the Worlds deserves care and time and there is no other way I could do it."

____Pendragon Producer Susan Goforth adds, "The script has to be rewritten from the ground up. This new version will be a true and accurate adaptation

of the Wells classic story placed in its original 1898 setting. It's been emotionally difficult for us to see sets and thousands of preparations scrapped.

But Timothy has made the right choice."

____Foundation Imaging will handle a major portion of the visual effects for WAR OF THE WORLDS. Director Timothy Hines commented, 'Originally, I

had thought to go entirely in-house. But when we toured facilities, met artists, I knew we were philosophically aligned. Ron (Thornton) is a huge fan

of WAR OF THE WORLDS, and has a strong background in miniature construction, which is fantastic, as we are favouring miniatures over CG as our

primary approach to the effects.'

____That is not to say Pendragon's Magic Dragon Visual Effects will not be involved. 'We're bringing on people like Jon Sorenson, who contributed to

many effects films, such as the construction of the Nostromo for Alien,' says Hines.

____As far as the darkness of Pendragon's script, 'I'm convinced more than ever that we are doing WAR OF THE WORLDS right,' says Hines, candidly.

"We met with many studio executives and Hollywood agents, and the vast majority have flipped out at how great our script is, though a few have

expressed concerns as to how frightening our approach is. Talking with one major producer, when I expressed that the fans of WAR OF THE WORLDS

demand that the story be told true to Wells and must be dark, he responded by telling me, 'These people are not your audience. Kids are the ones

going to the movies the most and your film will terrify them.' He tried to convince me that my production needed more 'dramedy'. Whereas

script polishing is inevitable as you go in production, I assure the fans that our movie will be truly terrifying and contain no 'dramedy'.

i wounder why they put in on hold due to 9/11. it has nothing to do with terrorism. Aliens and Alquida don't really have too much in common.

It really sucks that they had to dance around everyone's feelings in regards to 911. Seems like a lot of things have been watered down because of that shit. Looks good other than that. The aliens look like some creepy fucks.

you didn't read carefully enough

this is a read between the lines thing..

statements such as:

....reworking the entire script form the ground up

.....We watched portions of

our fictional screenplay being played out on September 11th. I knew immediately we couldn't do War of the Worlds as conceived.

...This new version will be a true and accurate adaptation

of the Wells classic story placed in its original 1898 setting.

indicate that the version they had been planning included some stuff that is obviously relevant, or too eerily similar to the WTC attacks..who knows?? art imitating life, that hadn't happened yet..

plus a main collaborator was killed in the attacks

ANYWAY..

that looks awesome..

good lookin out rage

i will be anxiously awaiting..

and one thing i loved:

the guy isn't pandering to an audience.

"this will not contain dramedy"

HELLYEAH

They might not being watering it down. They could be including stuff about 911 in there. Or maybe they don't want their movie to get any publicity out of the 9/11 have it judged on its own merits. who knows. looks ill.

READ AGAIN.

im hyped up that these guys are planning on using miniatures for a majority of

the ships instead of this space age computer graphics garbage. Call me old fashioned

but i just don't really care for CG shit.

^Word to yuck.

I enjoy CG when it's done tastefully, seamlessly, and strictly when necessary. The miniature work on "Independence Day" still kills 90% of CG stuff in movies today.

And I still find the cheap rubber puppets in older movies more believable than all-CG characters in new ones... I remember watching the beginning of "Phantom Menace", and getting psyched that the first alien dudes to appear (the Neimoidians) were rubber costumes, and then they sent it all to shit with fucking Jar Jar Binks. Ditto on making Jabba the Hutt walk around on the re-releases... looks like a tech fucking took a shit on the film strip and smeared eyes and a mouth on it. And how about Yoda... they actually had to animate and wiggle the tips of his ears so that it'd look like the vibrations from the old puppet. Dude, just keep him as a fucking puppet. Him fighting at the end was badass though, that was cool, and the CG treatment well-deserved.

And while I'm at it, fuck making E.T. digital... he's supposed to look stumpy and stiff, not all flagrant and expressive.

Exactly what i was thinkin mamerro. What was even gayer was replacing the guns the government dudes had with radios.

While on the topic of remakes. They are remaking Texas Chainsaw Massacre. "A toned down version of the 1974 gorefest." Now if I remember correctly, there was very little blood in TCM. What the hell is going on? Fuck this remake shit.

oh wow, i didn't know that there were 2, yeah that is a dick more on his part to do that, but then again it might help the indy version. people may take more interest in it because of the spielberg version.

and from the looks of it, the indy come out before the speilberg version and stays true to the original novel.
