The point is that was the closest he got to contacting a real terrorist. A mailer-daemon. I could throw a random email out there right now and "in all probability" be closer to contacting a real terrorist than him. Read the report. The FBI guided him the entire time. Over almost a whole year they plotted this attack against portland and gave him everything he had to do it. The bomb they used was an FBI bomb. The credit card they used to pay for the hotel was an FBI credit card. The truck they used was an FBI truck. The driver for the truck was an FBI agent. The person who armed the bomb was an FBI agent. And what's amazing to me is that it's all right there in the report, meaning they think just like you, that this is somehow protecting americans. He's refereed to as a man who lives in Pakistan in a town known to have terrorists. That's as far as their investigation went into who the guy actually was. There is nothing prior to this incident that links this man to recruiting people for terrorism, and if he did it doesnt even matter because he never recruited the kid.
