MrChupacabra
I had Modus Hoperandi in a can the other night, and while i'm not really a big fan of most IPAs, i was still pleasantly surprised to have what was clearly a well crafted beer in a can. I had New Belgium Sunshine Wheat in a can too, but that wasn't anything to write home about.
Fist 666
i know we've talked about this, but for me the whole singular pro to cans is the sheer camp-ability of the product. oskar blues started putting "pack it in/pack it out" on the cans to promote it. it always infuriates me to find broken glass at trailheads, campsites, in streams or rivers, and just anywhere but the trash. i don't think cans affect the flavor enough to change the experience vs a bottle, but if you ever get the chance to have oskar blues on draft, do it. how're things mr chupa? MrChupacabra
Not too bad. I just moved out to Denver last week. You back in afghanistan or on leave, and how much longer are you out there for? i owe you a package of some sort. Are CDs, MP3 cds, or cassettes the preferred listening format? Also, when the fuck did you get married? Jon told me it was right before you deployed, but i had no idea.
Fist 666
i'm back in afghanistan, but i have regular internet access now. so i'll be building up my post count! wooooo no pressure on packages, now that we have internet any format of music is appreciated. thanks in advance for the thought. and yep, marriage. we'd been friends for a couple years, had talked about a long engagement for the year i'm here, but ultimately felt we oughta just get married. its win. you planning on staying in denver for long? love that city. i'll be here til the end of june/early july. after that i'll be in denver for a week or two. you guys do IRC or anything anymore? MarcoFromHouston
"This release weighs in at 11% ABV. Let it warm to at least 50° before enjoying. This beer is black with some ruby highlights. The nose is full of pumpkin pie spices and some alcohol. There are notes of nutmeg, caraway and vanilla. The taste starts with chocolate malt with a hint of spice and rolls into a warm spicy alcohol taste which has the effect of creating the balance that usually comes from the hop bitter. There is some hop bitter on the finish, but not much. Overall, this beer finishes relatively dry for such a big beer. As it warms, the spices move forward in the taste and the chocolate moves to the finish. The pumpkin provides a pleasant undertone and a round mouthfeel. The spices will probably fade some over time; they have mellowed considerably since we first tasted DR9 in the fermenter" - from the St. Arnold's Newsletter

somethinglikethat
Got one of these to enjoy tonight. Anyone in the northeast if you haven't had it yet, get it while its around. One of my favorite DIPA's. Word is that Smuttynose is making it a full time release next year in 4 packs... certainly good news.
the.crooked
Yo, if Smuttynose makes the Smuttonator anytime soon. Get a couple and I will make you a good trade for them.

troofandroomaz
brewed in harrisburg, pa by troegs brewing co. 11% holiday madness. brewed in baltimore by clipper city brewing co. 9% greatness. don't know if either of these have been posted yet, but try to find some if you can for the holidays because i don't really know how far their distribution reaches, but I'm lucky enough to live close enough to both of these towns to get them. troofandroomaz
word, my brother lives in cali and i send him a case of mad elf every holiday because it is truly awesome. definitely pricey, but you can get cases of 12oz or 22oz bottles, which is just dangerous. Most bars in town that serve it cut people off on that particular beer pretty quick too. If it wasn't so expensive to send shit like that, i'd send you some to enjoy because both of those brews do it well.
john_gacy
Having an Orval. Anyone? Don't know what to make of it. I've seen it receive good reviews/ratings over time. I've had a few here and there, never thought it met its true potential. 6.9% from Belgium. It's highly carbonated, good nose, but I think the head you get on the pour ruins it a bit. A bit pricey too.
somethinglikethat
Drinking one of these right now, this thing defies description. A Stone/Brewdog collaboration, described as "Black Belgian Style Double IPA". Almost $6 for a 12 oz bottle but i'd call it a must-try if you find it. Tavaruawon
I was down in San Diego recently and I slid through the stone brewery. I was really impressed with everything they have going on there. I picked up a few bottles of the 9/9/09 Vertical Epic... great stuff! Sippin on this right now and watching MMA.
