RumPuncher
okay... all the new models are out, so it's time for a thread. I'm going for my learners in a week, hitting a motorcycle show on the 25th to buy gloves and a helmet, doing a training weekend sometime in April.... and dreaming about bikes all the time. (last night I was honestly was dreaming about ripping the bodywork off a GS500, I'm obsessed) so here's some fun new bikes.... ^ the new YZF-R1 limited ^ BMW has got the adventure tour thing down. ^ brand new 'retro' ducati ^ the honda 599 is back this year after getting dropped. Did you know it's the most popular full size bike in europe?

RumPuncher
you know why I left KTM out tesseract? up untill this year there was only ONE street legal model in North America. Only the Adventure 950 was out. I think this year there's an 'S' model of the same bike. if a bike cant go on the street, I'm not really into it. ClueTwo
eeegghhh Carbon Fiber, fiberglass, plastic, etc..Fairings to me look gaudy and completely unneccesary. Clearly they serve an aerodynamic purpose, but I don't plan on going 200mph on the I-10 anytime soon... I love the look of a stripped down sport bike. (only works on Ducati).. Guest imported_Tesseract
Ok, i hear that. I'm all about dirtbikes though, comes with the territory

RumPuncher
I hear you clue.... but look at this honda. nekkid and sexy. ^ I'm big into the KLR650. (only because a BMW F 650 GS is way out of my price range. so who here actually has a bike and rides it? I dont yet... but I will.

Weapon X
That retro-Ducatti is sick! Good luck on that testing and shit. And if you know anyone who lives in Hong Kong right now, I'd say get them to ship you over a helmet. I hear they got fantastic Arai helmets for way cheaper than you can get here.
RumPuncher
this arai is badass... but like $500 US.
Weapon X
My buddy in Taiwan gets them for way cheaper. And my other two buddies who have visited said Taiwanese buddy have made a point to hit HK for helmets. I'm not sure what the price is, but it might be worth checking out. SteveAustin
good call on that MV Augusta Sienna 4 Mams! That bike is awesome. 2006 Aprilia Tuono as far as who owns...I have three. Maxim 550 Maxim 650 Ducati 996 neither of the Maxims are currently running...and technically I gave one to my dad...but I still have the title. RumPuncher
so here's what I'm thinking.... (or questioning) for my first bike should I get a used beater and try to upgrade next year? should I get dealer fiancing to buy a new bike this year? I'd feel like a bit of a tool buying a new bike for my first bike, but then there'd be less to worry about (mechanically, wear etc). I'm thinking that a nice 600cc (ballpark) standard or a 650 dual-sport will last me for years. Any advice ?

Quoted post In my opinion....buy something cheap that you don't care about in the 450 - 650 cc range. If you want to go with a cruiser...you can go a few cc's higher...but I'd still get something you don't mind dropping. Shit happens. Its always better to be underpowerd when you're first learning to ride. Plenty of other learning experiences are gonna come your way without having to worry about the bike getting out from under you.
