It's not poisonous or anything, some people take it as a vitamin supplement I believe. Don't ask me why anyone would want to eat them like this, let alone possess them, but I guess it's possible to. I used to hate it when I was a kid, but something happened one day and all of a sudden fresh spinach, onions, and licorice were things that I now liked alot, though not in the same meal.
