this thread is great example of whats wrong with graffiti and the world in general today,all i know is if any of you kids came spouting these half assed exuces for snitghing when i was comin up youd get clowned at the very least and most likely a smack but you would not be allowed around any writers,period,whatever we all come from different walks of lofe,this is true,but were all part of a criminal lifestyle and should all adhere to the code of the streets,im an older dude now and work and drive a nice whip and live in a nice crib,but i would never ever call the cops if i caught someone breakin into my shit never mind because i think they might,i handle my own shit,i would never snitch on my worst enemy that killed my homeboy,and anyone on this board who knows me can vouch for this,but whatever i guess im from a different era and place than most heads,i just really think its sad that a bunch of so-called writers would rally around people saying snitchin cool and try to diss someone who says its wack to snitch,but in reality it doesnt suprise me because 90% of writers nowadays are cornyass fake fuckin pussies which is why i really only associate with my crew,and yous can say what you want that i think im a thug,blazayblah,but you dont hear me talkin how i grabbed the nine and clapped at fools,real badboys move in silence and anyone who knows me knows i handle my shit,but yeah im off to tag a dumpster and ill let all you REAL writers go back to talkin about how it okay to snitch as long as the circumstances are right,i dont know why i even bother with this site somrtimes.....

Coming onto a "graffiti" site talking about how they got no problem calling cops on their neighbors and "excusing" it by trying to change the definition of a snitch to not fit their personal situation on some cop out shit. not for nothing, and i hate to break it to you, but this is the internet. i'm sure 90% of the people on here aren't "real writers" in your eyes. i'll be the first to admit i'm not a "writer" at all. i'm a spectator, and that's what brought me to this site. out of the number of people who come on here, how many do you really think hold down what you think is "real?" it's the internet man, get used to it. talking about snitching might be fucking pussy shit, but so is going on a thread talking shit and starting beef (i'm not saying this is you, i'm just stating a point). it's the internet, there's a too much stupid shit going down on here. if it takes away from what you love, than leave it and go back to what you know --the real world.

Remember what "snitching" is.

The traditional anti-snitch mentality comes from groups that are connected, a brotherhood in some way. The mafia, your friends, graffiti writers, your co-workers; whatever your group, it's people with whom you have a connection or bond.

The tightness of that bond is what matters.

I would never snitch on a graffiti writer, even some worthless fool toy who is ragging my shit. Not only do we have a connection, but I can handle it myself. If his boys get involved, so do mine.

I don't rack much, and not from those who can ill afford it, but I'll take anything unguarded by a corporation. So I must count thieves among my no-snitch brothers. It's a distant connection but it's a do unto others scenario, so I won't rat out thieves.

In your case, there would appear to be no bond whatsoever between you and the neighborhood scumbags. They aren't even your "neighbors" if they aren't paying for rent. And you know they wouldn't uphold the code of silence for you. (Sounds like they already called the cops on you for something.)

So consider who and what you are protecting, at the cost of your sanity, by upholding a code of silence they don't even subscribe to.

It's each individual's decision how to handle shit like this - vigilante style or call the cops style - but with vigilante shit unavailable for the reasons you mentioned, I'd say there's no shame in enlisting the boys in blue. But as you're aware they aren't really your friends either, and you must engage with them carefully.

I would probably call in the worst, most blatant incidents only, and get the cops to give you incident-specific documentation that they came out. (In my area it's a 'crime number', or if they come out but nobody gets arrested it will still receive an 'incident number'.) Present this info to the landlord as evidence that your safety is threatened by things he can prevent, which allows you to break your lease. (Some lawyer-type research may be necessary per your state or specific lease, but in my area an 'unlivable condition' is cause for withholding rent.)

Moving out should be on the agenda regardless, and let your couch surfers know they need to be out well before you, as you need to save $$ for a new place.
