If he/she can't even secure their network, you have nothing to worry about.

Unless they are setting you up (which I doubt). The ISP can monitor your movements, I believe. Hackers can too. As long as you get a good firewall, antivirus, etc. You will be fine.

seph answered your question, but i thought i might throw

out an extra. if you're worried about shit, use a tor package.

http://www.torproject.org/download.html.en

a bit slow, but if you're doing something you are worried about, use it.

to keep bad tor servers out, use in conjunction with peerguardian.

wait'll you see who's running tor servers....(watch the peerguardian log when you open the tor browser)

thanks guys.. i got drunk and did something stupid.

is there a program i can run to give me the passwords to protected wireless signals?

on PC, btw

for the love of god, i CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH about how important changing your mac address is when doing any sort of wireless BS.

i really urge you the read the shit out of the docs for all the programs you use for that, because if your neighbor or whatever happens to know whats up with that stuff, then you could be stepping into a very dangerous place because he/she is always the admin, unless you know how to strip those rights away from them swiftly and/or disable them, they can always go straight back to you.

oh and have a wireless card that doesn't suck. it won't work for all of them, and finding the right driver can be a bitch sometimes.

but if you're GONNA do it either way, get one of these motherfuckers.

Alfa_USB_500mw_Wifi_Adapter_Awus036h.jpg

Alfa 500mW AWUS036H

Able to be hooked to a coaxial antenna *cough*10DBYAGGIMAKESMEGETALMOSTAMILEWORTHOFNETWORKS*cough* and make it kick ass.

but for real. careful with that shit. i SERIOUSLY recommend running it straight from the cd or usb key. laptop if possible. backtrack is an awesome tool with a TON of possibilities, but if you log onto the wrong network, it ain't gonna help you unless you protected yourself REAL well.

Okay, here's the deal....

I got a new p.c. made by Dell. Not exactly legit.

I want to download full on albums from sites as rapid share and others. Like you know when someone from the ooontz makes a thread for a new album coming out and everyone jumps on it. Anyway I don't know what torrents are or any of this fancy talk. I am legally retarded when it comes to this computer stuff. So help me out here. What do I need to down load all these albums and stuff. If you don't mind explaining all this to me that would be dope too.

Props will be given forever.

-Thanks

Fall registrating starts today. I already explained my situation in here. To recap

im trying to stack a computer network type associates on top of my unrelated BA.

I have been spending an hour or 2 per day most days with Mac 10.5 OSX and office 2003. Ive got the machines, the books, and the time right now

There are quite a few different programs. Tonite i intend to register. The one

I was looking at takes more of a network specialist angle. There is a class on

UNIX and Linux, Novell cert test prep, Network + test prep amd A+ test prep. This

is a certificate program in and of itself. In addition there are a few other classes. Internet security, Windows server admin, network concepts, ect

Basically what i was wondering... in the professional opinions around here. With

the skills being taught would i be considered employable?

I dont have money to waste and i rather not waste my time either.

A+ and Net+ you can study for yourself. you'll do fine. just make sure you

study. there are a few programs you can "find" on demonoid, etc.

pass4sure, etc.

If I were you, I would go into security. Not this "internet security" business, more

in the realm of tiger team type security. A+ and Net+ first and foremost (or just Net+, A+ isn't required for much of anything unless you want to work for Compusa or whatever.

Ethical Hacking might be a direction you want to go in. Check this out

Anyhow, security is going to be bigger than it is now. You can get work for corporate and/or government or consult...big money in consulting.

Sometimes you can set your router to be accessed according to your MAC address.

In my router its called Access Control, if you turn it on you need to input the devices MAC address.

If it is not listed there you will still be able to see it you just won't be able to connect to it.

Check your settings.

How do I do this?

This problem started 2 weeks ago, it was fine the 3 years before.

open start - run - type 'cmd'

from the command prompt, run 'ipconfig'

look for your 'default gateway', and type that number in the browser.

google your model number of your router, and get the default login/pass for it.

unfortunately since i don't know your router or whatever, i can't walk you through it. but it's like seph said, it'd be in the access control section under mac address filtering. also if you're on vista, it has this real bad habit of forgetting all your info, and when you connect to your own home network that you connected to a fucking billion times, it'll give you local access only (i.e. only to other computers on your network).

vista's fucked. google's your friend.

I turned my PC on this morning and within 5 minutes of it beng on I noticed the smell of burning plastic coming from within. It did not lose power so I decided to shut down the machine manuelly as quickly as possible. I opened it up and could not locate anything that looked like it had been the source of the burning smell and am leaving the PC off.

Does anybody have any idea what might have caused this? Would it be safe to turn on? Or would that risk frying the motherboard or cause some other damage? Possibly related to the power supply to the fans? Appreciate any help....
