Gonna try and get this thread moving again. I've been reading a lot the last few years. Fucked around with a few junipers. Collected a manzanita and a redwood sapling from a research site my wife brought me to a few years ago. Nothing came about. It was ambitious and I wasn't ready. Both died. I'm going to the Bay Island Bonsai show in Oakland this weekend. I'll take lots of photos of the exhibition and of the Oakland Bonsai Garden (which is stunning).

Having grown up experiencing two very very different sides of the parental divide regarding sheltering vs exposure with explanation, I tend to think the latter is most effective. I think, though, it generates a very particular type of person. Every human I know who was raised in a similar sort of way in terms of being exposed to the adult side of life at a young age is usually a pretty straightforward, unrelenting, and self assured person. Sometimes it can lead to someone being a complete piece of shit, but ultimately I think that's on the parent to teach humility and context along with the exposure. If and when me and the special lady pal have a lil one, I'm fine with them finding 12oz. I may not direct them here, but if they have pertinent interests, sure. I'd also be hard pressed to honestly believe that the youth are going to cognize internet communications in this same format that we all have.

I might could convince Dawood to hop back on. I still talk regular shit to him on FB. And there is literally no way that DAO is a respectable human being.

Shai fell off the radar a few years ago. I saw him from time to time when I moved to the bay, but eventually we lost touch. Last I spoke with IRL pal who know him longest said she spoke with his dad, but also had not heard from him in a while. I hope he's alright.

since my first screenname; graduated highschool, went into college since this screenname; graduated undergrad, moved to the bay, moved to houston, got into graduate school, moved to LA/Irvine, finished grad school, moved back to oakland, bartended and got a better job, got engaged to partner since graduating college, learned how to cook quite well, got married in beautiful place and as drunk as i could be, wife finished grad school. that brings us to this week

There are some great french ciders that sit on the dry side. Some use champagne yeast and are fucking wonderful. A little funky like a nice farmhouse ale, but crisp and round due to the fruit. I also started bartending at Trappist Provisions in Oakland. So that's cool.

I am just not a huge fan of english yeasts. I'd be more curious about the walnut rather than the chocolate.
