  1. I guess. Unfortunately here, particularly in University settings like where I'm at, there's a lot of braggadocios frat assholes who think they are intellectual hot shit when they come to a thirty tap craft pub and attempt to order Blue Moon (of which they don't have) only to settle on Abita Purple Haze in a pissed off compromise... Basically, it's more just a sign for me to steer clear, or at least just borrow a cigarette from them later and make fun of them for being assholes to their face when I'm good and drunk.
  2. Had the Goose Island IPA today. Spoke with a Goose Island rep that was at the pub. I'll applaud ABInbev for not fucking with the general structure of the company. None of the recipe's have changed, but I do know the head brewer ducked out right before the sell. Either way, still a generally solid brewery. I've shat on them before, particularly for Matilda, but the Bourbon County Imp. Stout (Original, Rare, Vanilla and Coffee included) are some of the best beers I've ever tried. Soooo, I say they are most def worth the try. I wouldn't put them in the same camp (even if owned by a major) as I would "Blue Moon." Particularly since Blue Moon is what people perceive as craft beer who "come over" from the mainstream markets. So you still have some of the same brewers for the majors portraying crafts, but aren't actually started within that vein. Where as even though I would consider Stone as some sort of emerging major, I would still refer to them as Micro/Craft because of their history. Just some epistemological rantings on the size and distribution of beer versus its relative quality.
  3. Tart of Darkness is a classy ass beer. I live near the bruery so I've had the majority of their offerings. Personally while I think they are a solid brewery I find them somewhat over-rated and overvalued. Mostly the latter. Jolly pumpkin is sometimes inconsistent in how long you can cellar them. Like, Oro De Calabeza can age for a few years. I think the lack of consistency comes in that they are almost all wild fermentation (if not all), so each batch is going to be different, etc. Just a thought, I'm sure protestor can weigh in as well.
  4. i knew that photo still existed somewhere
  5. In regards to that absurd "Dewalt" gun: http://www.snopes.com/photos/technology/nailgun.asp
  6. vanfullofretards- for your edification, pliny the elder is not sold in packs. only in single 375's. the younger, however, is never released in bottles. only kegged, or growler at the release at the brewery.
  7. happy bday Shai, hope oakland is treatin ya well. I'd buy you a beer if I were around, but we bounced to BK for the holiday. I still remember the hospitality Shai showed me in the first week I moved to the bay. Dude found out I was stayin around the corner and dropped off a birthday pack of weed cookies that knocked me on my ass for hours.
  8. I grew up on him, jade and vizie in Houston. I don't know if anyone has it, but the photo of the spot that he and Jade had on the top floor of an abandoned high rise in downtown Houston is one of the first spots that i was ever just baffled that someone got to. Had a conversation with a friend tonight over dinner about how much this sucks, and how influential he was in our appreciation of graffiti in Houston and around the country. Rest in peace. Keep the images coming. Nothing but loving nostalgia. condolences to the family, friends and crew.
  9. dead guy can blow me. /snoboner ...yes i realize that reads "snow boner." point remains.
  10. maaaaannnn, my friend is on one. I had a few homebrews of his i couldn't bring back to CA, so I left them in my parent's pantry till last night. Had an IPA with zythos and citra hops. GOOOOD. The girl has one of our friend's raspberry sours last night and said it was delicious too. We are bringing over a cherry sour to a friend's place today. I'll report back with photos then. This is the same dude who made the weed oatmeal stout that got me lifted a while ago. YAY for friends who get their chem PhD making beer.
  11. As the abhorrent boozer that I am. A few years ago, we were already drunk and opened a bottle of absinthe. Ended up just mixing it with vodka as a mixed drink. Nothing else, just absinthe and vodka. Dumb.
  12. I'll put it this way. I may know beer like a motherfucker, but I don't try to brew. Even if I know how, in the basic sense. Good for you starting out basic. Have fun!
  13. my favorite thing about threads like this is seeing who else drops out'a the woodwork to say what's good. hello all.
  14. I'm gonna go ahead and show you all why the bay area is the single best place for beer in the country: http://www.diablomag.com/D-blog/Diablo-Dish/December-2012/Weekly-Dish-East-Bay-Rising/ "First up is Chuck Stilphen, owner of the popular beer-centric bars The Trappist in Old Oakland, OL in Walnut Creek, and upcoming Trappist Provisions in Rockridge. Stilphen is taking on the big city, with plans to open "the finest world class beer cafe San Francisco has ever seen (in my opinion anyway)." What's in the works? Well, Stilphen has secured a 3,000 square foot space at Market and Mason streets (34 Mason Street) near the Nordstrom shopping center. Beer geeks take note: Stilphen plans to carry 40 drafts from the finest European and American (and other countries) small batch independent brewers, as well as two to three casks handles, hundreds of bottles, plus wine on tap. Ho hum? Well here's a couple cool details: there will also be a special private lambic/sour beer tasting room in the cellar (only sour beer lovers allowed); and the bar will be the first of its kind (according to Stilphen) to pour draft beers at different temperatures (i.e. lager and pilsners at cooler temperatures, stouts and heavier beers closer to room temperature)." Long story short: 40 taps all separately temp controlled Private Lambic/Sour tasting room 3 Casks 100+ bottles Smoked Meats, Charcuterie, Pickled Foods Monthly Dinners with Guest Chefs and Pairings aka I"M GOING TO LOSE ALL MY MONEY AND GET FAT HERE!
  15. Narwhal Celebration and Bigfoot all say you are wrong about sierra nevada.
  16. The Trappist had a Cantillon event today: (photo from their facebook page) 200+ lined up some as early as 6am. Fuck a one time imperial stout. These people know what's up.
  17. lonestar is just the "olympia" or pbr of texas. which, in fact is owned by PBR.
  18. ^same jealousy here. Lots of good stuff all gone.
  19. Ice-T's documentary on hiphop is on netflix now. It's worth watching. Would have liked some different interviews with some newer people as well as who all he did interview. But it was awesome no less. Can't log into my account so I can't post the link currently. Something from Nothing: The art of rap I think is the name.
  20. ^Word up. Good for you for taking stock and getting shit together. We all gotta do it sometimes.
  21. If I'm not on a bus up to the bay area, I'll roll through gladly.
  22. After I saw the size of the displays for narwhal, I had a feeling that the run was small to test waters, and that demand would be way higher. protestor- what's good with the not drinking?
