  1. I've got no real stake in the fire regarding one over the other. I just really love the classic aesthetics of the 1911 in .45.
  2. Well, turns out my account isn't deleted, so I guess I'll post an update here. Got "lucky" and was able to pick up 300 rounds from local big 5 at 64cpr for 5.56 which is still .06-.10 less than online bulk looks right now. Went to the range a few days later. Zero'd at 50yds but wasn't looking for groupings. A lot of it was just wanting to get used to the gun. 100yds turned out liked this: Anything outside the black was when I was at 50, just put a new sticker over the old. Next time I'll try to see what the coefficient on MOA is for groupings. @RUNINE- LPVO worked beautifully at 50 and 100. I was able shoot with both one eye or both open and feel comfortable. For the price, this thing is great. Also shot my buddy's Arex Zero Compact in 9mm. It was very easy to shoot. He hadn't done so at 7 yards so we just did that. Was very enjoyable. Still inclined towards 45acp for handgun. Curious y'alls thoughts on 9 vs other caliber for pistol.
  3. 1. Sure, I'll be open about it. I find your, @Dirty_habiT, persistent overbearing perspectives flatly wrong, uneducated, ill-conceived, lacking rational backing, detrimental to the overall quality of content and engagement of this platform, and lastly, just fucking stupid. You've always been an idiot, now you're just a functionally dangerous idiot. 2. I'm not acting like I have huge balls. This isn't some dick swinging competition, it's the sad catharsis of grief about something from roughly half of my life dying a slow predictable death. I've sought to support this space regularly through purchase, promoting on IG, talking to people personally IRL trying to get people back here. I love this place, but jesus christ. 3. It was supposed to be a joke about you feelin real tight about the impeachment process. but insert <img.>UMAD.JPG</img> here. Really wasn't supposed to be that serious given your proclivity to tell people not to get into their feelings. 4. I hate to say it, but I think I'm out. Love most of y'all. Really miss what this place has meant to my life and communities, but it's aggravating, sad, and frustrating to see the baseline level of critical thought it's come to have. Good luck, Raven. 5. Go ahead and take your feelings out with the banhammer, dhabz. 6. @misteraven I'd appreciate a response either in the initial thread where I asked, or here, but how would you prefer CCPA requests be sent?
  4. Is there an impeachment process or censure process for moderators based on user opinion?

    Alcoholism

I think the distinction I'm making is "i can knock shit off generally when I feel it's truly necessary." Not, "I don't go on benders, and don't sometimes have a come to jesus moments with myself." Cus I do love me a bender. And if i got the unadulterated time, I'm down to shirk off this reality. Shit has certainly been harder this year. I'm a very bored human in general. I need people and novelty to feel engaged with the world around me. It's certainly led to an increase in consumption during pandemic for me and my wife (same situation on intellect, etc). I think a big thing I'm "struggling" with is the lack of current outlets, and also just questioning how much of my choices regarding career and doing "it" out of social propriety is leading to that want to just escape regardless of my ability to control that.

lastly, @Elena Delle DonneI was trying to figure out who you were as your posting in certain threads, and cadence seemed so familiar. makes sense. good to see you around and living. same to everyone else here.

    Alcoholism

On the double post trend, I think I should qualify this as I have issues with the way that words like "alcoholism" or other such behavioral syndroms/diseases are characterized. For a long time, I'd say about 40% of my life, I was worried I was a sociopath. Not in the strictly DSM version, but in what I think the term actually applies to. Not a lack of human empathy, but a lack of care once that empathy has been experienced. I've always thought it's the latter that is why some people are really good at lying/manipulation (read: me) and others are not. I think this ties into how I feel about consumption of anything in general. It's hard to find anyone who can make a solid cogent argument to me other than "you have to want that." Which I respect as a baseline. I just don't think that even if I wanted to tone down whatever I choose to do in my life, any common structure of support would do anything for me.

    Alcoholism

This is going to likely come across as remarkably self adulating or arrogant, but I'm hoping that a few of you who have known me here since I was a teenager in college will know I say this with all self awareness: Do any of y'all find being intelligent a blocker to the capacity to tone things down? I have always been relatively good at controlling consumption, other shitty behavior, and maybe this is more about depression than it is about consumption, but I find it very hard to give any real shits about the world or existing. From a philosophical standpoint, to a political standpoint, to a general ability to predict most trends, I find that I don't really care. I live my life. I'm functional. I do quite well with my work. I take care of my friends and family as they need. I do the things expected of me, I just find compulsory sobriety to be... not worth it? This is in absolutely no way a knock on, or comment of contention towards anyone else in this thread. I'm legitimately curious how intellect plays into people's ability for control, myself included.
  9. @RUNINE- will let you know. I was mostly planning on FFP, but we'll see how I do with this one. @misteraven- r/aeroprecisioninstock is your friend. On tuning, everything I've seen suggests some amount of trial and error. My guess is you can come up with some rough estimates of what pressure is being pushed back into the chamber with some basic fluid dynamics (completely ignoring thermodynamic externalities) as a way of setting benchmarks even if it is just more precise trial and error.
  10. Finished: It finished a little different than I expected, but mostly due to me wanting to finish/cost: aero 16" barrel with 15" s-one atlas handguard bravo company VFG aero m4e1 lower cryptic coating bcg blem (i couldn't find what the blem was) larue mbt 2 stage curved bow trigger larue lpk magpul gen 1.1 grip magpul ctr with Larue RISR and enhanced butt pad armaglock gen4 with kingpin enhanced buffer tube with h2 buffer (instead of jp silent) primary arms 1-6x24mm LPVO SFP midwest industries qd mount (this thing is awesome) magpul 10rnd mags with rjk coupler replacing the baseplates Not pictured is the surefire warden/warcomp that's on order, and no BUIS yet. Whole thing sure wasn't cheap to build, and I still need a few last things. But, it's functional, and I'm takin it out potentially this weekend time permitting.
  11. Np! the consistency across them was surprising to see so many different artists there. Favorite post in a while here. Thanks.
  12. Biden won. Past tense. Almost every legal challenge has been thrown out on its face. The GA recount will favor biden more heavily. PA will get outside the margin for recount thus challenges there will be found moot by the courts. AZ is ultimately dunzo. It's done.
  13. Fuck. We tried so many times to catch up in the bay. Between this and Rage's thread. I'm really starting to re-evaluate how much of my life I've dedicated to the rat race this last decade or so. Pretty sure that's the legacy of impact he'd wanna have on us all. RIP Tierdo.
  14. I'm sorry to hear all this. As everyone else has already said in so many ways about the early aughts and the mark we've all left on each other, I can only agree. A few years ago my uncle was diagnosed with acute myelocytic leukemia. It was fast, relentless, and unforgiving. He was just about ready to receive a bone marrow transfer after forcing it into supposed remission through two very aggressive chemo rounds. He passed no later than 5 months from his initial diagnoses. It was incredibly hard to see him in the hospital: frail, scared, and more than anything just terrified to think about the fact that he wouldn't see his daughter graduate college as a D-1 Athlete, or see his youngest son off to his prom and college, or to watch his grandson grow up. It's fucking awful to think about and I still get irate at the whole situation. I am right now. It rocked my cousins, and me. I'm the oldest of the grandchildren on that side, and I always had a very different interaction/relationship with him than his children, mostly because my parents were divorced, and he took on a lot of those fatherly duties when my father couldn't be around. I cannot imagine how you feel, but I do know how your loved ones feel. All this to say that you should do literally whatever the fuck you want with your time. Your family, friends, and your partner will support you in any choice you make. Take care of the logistics like you said, and then just ball the fuck out. Best of luck to you, Rage. And as everyone has said, please please please let all of us know if there is anything we can do, and that extends to your partner as well.
  15. I ended up getting a SFP 1-6X24MM ACSS from Primary Arms. Mostly for cost reasons. I'll probably get the Cyclops and a magnifier for the next build.
  16. Optics questions for folks. I have an astigmatism, so red dot feels out. I've been planning on getting PA's 1x6 FFP w/ ACSS reticle and running offset irons, but I'm now thinking about the PA Cyclops with a magnifier with inline backup irons. Thoughts?
  17. Yeah I've watched some of his vids before. Dude is one hell of an eng.
  18. DHabz, Here's the problem in addressing anything in an article like that, it becomes a rhetorical fight that's not possible to win. When the basic premise denies theory rooted in practice or reality, there's no logic argument to frame against it. But I'll go for it just with the snippet you provided, cus I'm not having my computer logged visiting sites like that as I don't want dumb shit ads for Alex Jones Dick Pills. And unfortunately the more I come here and the more stuff like that is posted the more likely I'll get em anyways. 1. In three ish sentences he goes from saying that the DNC should bow out, and then flatly claiming that the DNC is trying to institute a fascist state. It's ridiculous that he would make the first appeal while expecting it to be plausible if the latter is also true. Make a choice man. 2. I don't think there's a shared understanding of what Fascism is. Countless historians and survivors of fascist regimes across the world have told us we're in a pre-fascist state due to the policies of the current admin, and broader, the policies that the GOP has put in place over the last 20 years. It's ridiculous on the face of it. 3. Obama Deep State --- come the fuck on. The Deep State as a concept is also firmly rooted in conspiratorial thought that has a loooong literature looking at the relationships between xenophobic anxiety and distrust of a changing demography and electorate. The general thought here is that what is often characterized as economic anxiety or generalized anti-government sentiment is a fear of a loss of power that fundamentally favored white folks. And if we aren't even gonna agree that the US has a structural racism problem, the idea of me continuing any of these trains of thought is probably pointless. Lastly, my point about textbook markets and how pedagogy affects cognition can be found in researching the relationship between textbook producers, who drives the market (Texas and California), which percentage of states go with either mass produced version (most go with texas), and how those publications are chosen within those respective markets. If you're worried about a cabal of people brainwashing kids into believing one version of history or another, I'm sad to inform you you're looking the wrong direction. It's more oft then not a small group of religious white people who go line by line in textbooks headed for the texas market and tell publishers what they do and do not like. Mind you these committees are state formed and backed. I'm not saying that there are not impacts that happen at large levels due to regional, local, national policy. But, it is a lot simpler to believe there is concerted effort and decision towards evil when in actuality humans are fucking stupid as a mass populace and as Americans even more so. Emergent properties are a function of disparate systems without a collective overseer. If you wanna talk about real policy that is directed at mass groups of people to their detriment for the gain of few, look at voter disenfranchisement, modern poll taxing, tax structure, gerrymandering, etc. All primary tactics and exploits of the GOP over the last 70 years. This conspiracy drivel is anti-intellectual, debases what should be actual conversations regarding the state of our populace and world, and does nothing to help but stoke racial anxiety and class disparity. Said as a human with a Masters in Public Policy, where politics and history are family business.
  19. How has the forum/site set up or dealt with the concept of CCPA or GDPR compliance? Just curious. This was a big part of my life the last couple years, first at google with GDPR and helping rework some data pipelines in one portion of the business, then at current company with CCPA becoming active at the beginning of the year. Realized I wasn't sure how smaller operations were interacting with these sorts of policy shifts in privacy regulation. Given, your views on freedom etc. @misteraven, how do see the necessity of regulatory frameworks like this? Let alone the burden on you and others in similar situations as the last buck on sites like this?
  20. At the very least I would highlight sources such as the one referenced in this thread as "media" but not a journalistic outlet. Not trying to "gateway" but would just like to see critical thought applied.
  21. Valid on admin vs mod (just saw red title and assumed). I'm happy to contribute, I just find that discourse here tends towards a certain lilt, and even when provided content of either contrary or substantial form otherwise it just gets ignored. I think this goes back to the question of what is "news" vs conversation in other parts of the forum. I reacted vehemently here due to the placement of the content. So much of our current world in the US and abroad is fucked by the misuse of terms to equate opinion with an attempt at objective reporting. If I start a thread on the concepts I mentioned above, where does that go without going to forum graveyard to die?
