Dude reveals what everyone fully expected in the first place, that there is deep state surveillance on communications and then runs off to countries who openly imprison and kill people who speak out against the state. This is not defence or advocacy for state surveillance and neither have I read much in to the Snowden/PRISM issue. But from what I see this guys strikes me as a bit of a fucking idiot, something along the lines of Assange. Well, maybe not as bad and infantile as Assange but at least as inexplicable. So sick of the misinformation in the media over here. And may I say the Mail is written by and for brainless cunts who are so damaging to society the IQ level would skyrocket if I were to murder the entire staff of the Mail (eg, today they squeezed 20 pages out of the royal birth - one page was a list of the last 100 years of royal babies and their weights). Luckily Cameron is such a useless bastard I doubt this porn block thing will get by - waaaay too many issues being brought up, the main one being that FFS YOU THICK CUNT PAEDOPHILES DO NOT JUST GOOGLE CHILD PORN. If they were that dumb the issue would have been sorted. Google only indexes 30some% of the internet anyway (I use the Tor browser and it's amazing how many more hits you get for anything). And the stats being trotted out are ones that are proved to have been fabricated (50k peados online at any one time? How can you possibly quantify that?). There's already talk about how people are just gonna get pulled into surveillance by mistake. Additionally the idea that all the peados and sex crimes are caused by porn? ALLOW IT. A restrictive religious upbringing is much more likely to warp your sexual views (there's some interesting meta-analysis done of studies which backs this up). Did the Hindley's have access to rape-simulation porn? No, and they still tortured and murdered how many people? Re Snowden - I firmly believe society needs people like him. I understand why you would think they come across as infantile and it certainly is no-brainer info to some of us, but I imagine a lot of younger people will be reached by this kind of whistle-blowing - I think this kind of event can often spark a kids' interest in politics. I think whistleblowing is a social act personally. And when it comes across as I imagine it would to many young uns as some badass vigilante thing, it might still do some good - if not in terms of the original act, then by default. Whistle blowing the right issues for the right reasons should be fully encouraged. However when it comes to Assange there is a huuuuge element of sensationalism and narcissistic behaviour there and some of the shit he's 'blown the whistle' on has been complete bullshit and damaged a number of innocent people (not to mention pending sexual assault charges that he may or may not be guilty of). Snowden seems to have blown the whistle for something that really wasn't required and he did not think his actions through very well at all (especially for a some one who is supposed to be a whiz-kid). Exposing what most normal people expect and not have a well thought out exit plan that ends up with him living in a Russian airport really leads me to question the value of his actions, even if his heart was in the right place. I have a few friends who have agreed w me when I've said I'm sick of texting and would rather avoid a 30 minute back and forth thru texts by having a quick 45 second phone call . seems like people are starting to get sick of smart phones. How many people have you heard talk shit about walking into a bar and everyone has their nose in a phone instead of talking or being at a table w people and everyone is doing that? I hate that shit, avoid doing it myself, and know I'm not the only one in my social circle who feels that way. I think my generation will kinda regress and ditch most of this social media and shit in the next few years.
