Men behind the Sun is phenomenal for the time and budget. Martyrs changed the definition of the word but was still ok. All that said, I think Irriversible is the most disturbing. The first time I watched Audition, i smoked entirely too much weed beforehand, and me and my friend spent the first like hour and a half saying, "oh shit, i'm pretty sure it's about to get really intense/gory/violent/etc" every 10 minutes. Then I started to get disappointed...then the payout came and it was so worth it. That movie honestly brings it to the point where anyone who came into it expecting it to be a Miike blood splatter fest is going to be like 2 minutes away from turning it off, and then everything starts getting ridiculous. end of not really a spoiler Also, I don't understand how Takashi Miike makes so many movies. Since 91 he's directed over 80 films. Completely nutty. Thats an average of a 3 month turnaround time on each movie, if there wasn't overlap in the work he's doing on them.
