Forehead

A popular stereotype is that having a large forehead signifies a high level of intelligence, although this is more of an old wives' tale than anything else.

The forehead is a popular place for decoration and religious symbolism in many cultures. In India, women often decorate their foreheads with bindis. On Ash Wednesday, Roman Catholic priests bless worshippers by marking their foreheads with ashes in the shape of a cross.

Most people tend to show their foreheads, while some people tend to hide their foreheads with a fringe. People of Asian descent are more likely to have fringes on their foreheads.

Although the forehead has traditionally been one of the more unloved parts of the human body, the bald headed east London intellectual Toby Roebuck chose 'The Furrowed Brow' as the title to his widely acclaimed novella. Roebuck was quoted in The Modern Review as saying that 'as someone who has been the subject of bullying and abuse on account of my baldness enhanced brow, I felt this title sends a message to my detractors that I will be strong and that my furrowed brow will live on.
