A favela is what they call one of these housing clusters. They are pretty much just the slums of Brazil and theres a lot of gang activity within. Heres a documentary on gang life in Rio where they meet the gangs of the favelas. Check some other episodes of Ross Kemp on Gangs if youve never heard of it, he goes around to different cities interviewing the hardest gangsters he can find.
