earl broclo ESQ Posted August 31, 2007 Share Posted August 31, 2007 bruceleroy --if you want to visit japan, check out the ESL (English as a Second Language) program. you can get jobs through different universities, teaching english to kids. some of them are better than others. some will put you up in housing, pay you, give you insurance, and refund your airfare if you stay the whole time in your contract. if you are interested, i'd recommend looking sooner than later. it's not as easy to get into as it used to be. earl broclo ESQ Posted August 31, 2007 Share Posted August 31, 2007 you need a bachelor's degree to get into most programs. also, some of the programs will land you in the country, not the major cities. there are tons of cities in japan though, so most likely you'll be able to find a program in one. they also have different age ranges for you to teach. you can end up teaching to little kids or high schoolers, depending on how you do through the application process. there are ESL programs all around the world, so if you ever want to go somewhere that is a non-english speaking country, look into these programs. good luck. I just spent some time there and I met several English teachers, who all went through the japanese government, and they all said it was the best way to go in terms of pay rate and your options. And also because I want to go visit my ex-girl in Norway. I actually go to Japan every summer to visit my family and relatives but not this year. I'm going in the winter and theres actually a lot of English tutors in Japan. NOVA education programs and since education is competitive among kids who actually stay in school, theirs a lot of programs. Its a nice tourist spot because it has a lot of ancient shrines and castles but also the most modern city in Asia. if you go and want to experience the full culture, go to places like Kyoto, Osaka, and the Kansai areas. if you want like a hawaii type trip, go to Okinawa. and if you want that modern adult life, go to Tokyo. Most cities in Japan are live at night. I live in Boston right now. Boston isnt just about all that historical shit. it depends what you wanna do there though.
