But, you have to keep it all in perspective...I'd like to think that what we post here makes a difference in the world, but if it does, it's probably only to those 54 people you mentioned. I've always thought that 12 oz. was fine the way it was, but I'm starting to see the light. I don't think anything short of starting a new board on an invite-only basis would do it....and, I simply don't have the means or the time to do that. I talked about doing a seperate tech board with Mainter and Casek, but not necessarily to compete with 12 oz....maybe as an alternative, or to complement it. I liked the Shermgrafik board a lot...it was definitely a good place to hang out when I got bored with what goes on here (there, I said it...it happens to everyone, don't kid yourself.). People seemed a lot more civil there- Sherm made it clear that she wanted to take the best people from here and see what came of it, and that we had to be respectful and bullshit would NOT be tolerated....but, unfortuately, it appears that she's not doing it anymore. I'm kind of getting off track here. Yeah, you don't need too many people to make a good message board....but, keep in mind that 12 oz. is a package deal. That does seem to be the routine. I don't know, sometimes the topics are good, and Crossfire does seem to be where a lot of the more thoughtful people end up saying their piece. I just don't like getting into political/theological debates all that much. Sometimes it's interesting and at times it's even necessary, but it's not something I live for. Not necessarily. It has potential to help expand the world-views of those 54 people. Then they can use that in social situations external to 12oz. This is all best-case scenarios, since we know that much of it is useless soapboxing. But having the political and philosphical threads/debates in a different section REALLY cuts down on the people who come in and say "FUCK ISRAEL, END OF DISCUSSION!!", "FUCK PALESTINE, BUNCH OF SANDNIGGERS", "FUCK GOD, RELIGION IS FOR STUPD PEOPEL!!!", etc etc etc. The longer responses might not be any more informed, but there's still less of them. Plus, the topics stay up on the first page for longer, therefore people who don't frequent 12oz every day might be able to catch them before they disappear into the sewers. Really, some of us like being able to talk about more than just pissing in someone's ass. Not all of the time, but sometimes. Sherm's forum? Man, I guess I'm not cool enough to have even known about it. Reminds me of IRC Undernet #quake. Just try joining #gamers and you'll see what I'm talking about. Special key'd room of the operators. IF- and this is a big if- I could could find free webhosting for a PHP board, I'd try to hook up a server to do something on a very small scale. It would probably be invite-only to begin with, but I could expand it if the interest in it was high enough. That, and I need to learn how to do PHP scripting. The Jelsoft templates seem easy enough to work with....Raven, I don't want to sound like I'm stealing your idea, but if you had some advice it would be appreciated. I type a lot of shit per post, but I do it in the hopes that it reads well and that I actually and contributing something useful. Haven't gotten blasted too much yet, so I think perhaps I'm on the right track. I hate losing my post when the computer crashes though... so much writing.
