I still need to finish up that second panel for you as well. Looking at studio space next month so painting will become a part time thing once again... instead of a few days every other month kind of thing. Rubbish... I raced the 3/4's Tuesday night at PIR. Kinda wacky. Every lap was a points lap. On the second to last lap I just about bridged a gap to get 2 points. Instead of sitting up and waiting for the field I stood up and gunned for the last lap. I stayed away solo till the super sharp turn (going counter clockwise) when three other guys caught me. They never pulled through, not one of them. I heard one guy yell "We got a good gap, keep working together!!" - I looked back with a smile and said "What did you say?" and got no reaction. So I pulled off the front for someone to pull through and ALL three sat up. We had a gap going into the last turn and they sat up. Fuckin' retards. There were a bunch of other shenanigans during the race that had me shaking my head but that was by far the silliest. Thankfully I was animated during most of the race and scored some points so I could just stroll in last and still finish in 11th. Afterward I jumped in with the 1/2/3's and immediately felt more safe. Anyway... it was fun being animated in that race. It was interesting with about 20 Ironclad riders, too. I'm hoping someone has used dry gear and could share any tips or point me in the direction of recomended products. Your comments will be greatly appreciated. I ride in the NW all year long and I can tell you that you can spend all the money you want on the most expensive "waterproof" booties and "waterproof" shoes and "waterproof" socks, but they're still going to get wet. And if your feet don't get wet from the weather conditions they'll get wet from all the non-breathable "waterproof" gear you have wrapped around them... because they can't breathe and are sweating like it's 110° outside. Just speaking from experience. Embrace the wet and you'll be fine. As long as you're not out in it for more than an hour then you'll never care. Tomorrow is my last ride of the year on a road bike... then a nice 12 days of not even thinking about touching my bikes. A nice long rest period. Dunno about the price though, I have seen a few of those frames listed on Gumtree in the past for around £80-£100 so that price seems a bit on the high side. I ride solely for transportation and the enjoyment of being outside and taking in the views so I guess I really don't need all this super gear and I completely understand the breathability issue. My jacket is waterproof and maybe ill look into those columbia pull over waterproof pants for some extra help and bring along another pair of shoes and socks when I gotta work. blahh Posted August 29, 2010 Share Posted August 29, 2010 For the rain I wear leather high tops with leather "waterproofing" treatment on them, some waterproof pants over my jeans, and a wool sweater. Works surprisingly well. You're not going to stay completely dry, its more about not being soaking wet. I also bring along a cheap o2 hooded waterproof jacket for when its really coming down, but I rarely use it because it is so uncomfortable and usually leaves me wet from sweat instead of rain. Another thing that helps A LOT is having fenders and a mup flap up front. Keeps the water from coming up off your front tire onto your feet. I'm really gunning to get to some Cross Crusades though. Also, you ever heard of the Belgian method? It involves using both glue and tape. Supposed to deliver the best hold.
