He has founded nine businesses in such diverse fields as music synthesis, financial investment, and cybernetic art. His many inventions include the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind as well as the first computer-based instrument that can realistically recreate the sound of a grand piano. Ray's most recent book, co-authored with Terry Grossman, M.D., is "Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever" (Rodale, 2004). Among other honors, Ray received the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize, and the 1999 National Medal of Technology, the nation's highest honor in technology, from President Clinton. In 2002, he was inducted into the National Inventor Hall of Fame. During his appearance at the Y, Ray will talk about the acceleration of technology and its impact on culture, longevity, and society.
