On the other hand, he almost got knocked out from the start, maybe was out for a second. There is no good game plan against BJ, other than to avoid fighting him. People are clowning Sanchez but I give him props. He went four and a half rounds with a guy who is out of his league and refused to quit, because of his mental training. Which comes back to the two key things BJ said before the fight: one, Diego had never fought a true champion; and two, Diego is an overachiever who got further than he deserved on the strength of his mental game. The Tony Robbins shit is a little goofy to watch but the result Sanchez gets with that mental training is admirable. (I could use that in other areas of my life.) But BJ Penn has no competition, so no amount of mental training will get you past him. I just think Sanchez took average skills (for his division) plus the mental toughness as far as he could to earn the title shot. Nothing against Guida, I love watching him fight, but good to see Florian bounce back after losing to BJ. They might as well line up Florian-Sanchez in a couple months, feed BJ some doomed hopeful in the meantime, and then send the winner of Florian-Sanchez to their rematch with Penn late next summer. He's the king of his division. And he'll handle Hardy, Koscheck or anybody else they throw at him next. Fighters changing divisions, adding or cutting weight, that kind of throws me off, I don't know what to think about that. On the other hand I guess it can get boring to see a single dominant dude in each division with no comp (A. Silva, GSP, BJ right now).
