downloading this .avi hookup. Its like 12GB large and 1/4 done. I tried to open the first episodes

in Quicktime player as this is my default and it shit on me.

Is this because the download is not entirely complete?

I wanted to put this on DVDs after i finish and started looking around to see

how to go about doing this. Found out about Roxio Toast & Nero burning and

I'm beginning to feel like this is more trouble than its worth.

So i suppose what i'm getting at here. Can anybody that has done

this give me some advice. Im using an Imac. I get frustrated looking

on other forums because everybody seems to be saying something

different. Its hard to tell who knows what they are talking about

and who is full of shit.

2ndly. If this is indeed more hassle that its worth is there anything simple

i can download that will allow this .AVI to be viewed thru Quicktime Player

I dont mind watching it off the screen i have here.

Gotta wait til the dl is done.

get VLC player

and you won't have to worry about another media player again.

Whats the point of some .avi anyway? Is it possible to download

a format that you can put dirrectly on a DVD. I just came up on

Demonoid. Started looking around and didn't see it stated anywhere

that the file type was .avi. Utorrent didn't tell me either. Didn't find out

about its .avi until i tried to play it and failed. Is this the standard

for video media and if so.... why? Wouldnt it make sense to just format the shit

so people wouldnt have to convert from 1 format to another. I

kno that there are dvd players that read .avi. But why not format

files so that standard equipment can handle it? I've downloaded

music that was .avi too that i ended up deleting because i couldnt get it

to work.

Is this especially for equipment sold in other countries? Is .avi some shit is

industry standard in asia or something. Some super high tech Japanese stuff?

This all reminds me of the small tire valves you get on higher

end mt bikes. You need a special screw on cap in order to put air

in your damn tire and for why?

I realize i probably sound like an Idiot here but this .avi shit has been

pissing me off for a few years now. To this point i've just avoided and tried

to have nothing to do with it. Figured if i didn't pay attn it would go away

but clearly i was wrong

.avi is one of the standard video formats globally. Most computers will play an .avi right out of the box. However,it's a microsoft thing,so whatever, sometimes macs will get mad at them. Again, just get VLC and your problems are solved.

DVDs are actually a few different files working together, that's why you can't just slap a file onto a disc and play away. they are also BIG. using the .avi container it reduces the file size quite a bit especially for downloading and it's fine if you're just watching the files right on your computer. Say you have a 750MB .avi file. By the time it gets to the disc you burned it'll be near maxing out the storage on the dvd disc. Should be no problem for you to find an .avi to dvd convert/burn application though.

I'm all over this VLC like fat kids on cake. Even tho

i have a TB at my disposal and another TB external

i've got in the habit of putting everything on DVDs for

storage and deleting big shit from my hard drive. All

the while I kinda figured .avi was like a zipped folder..

Figures it some microsoft hookup.

much thanks

So, I'm pretty sure I know what I'll have to do here, but I'm gonna ask to see if anybody else had this problem as well.

The last day or so, my trackpad on my Macbook Pro has been a pain in the ass. It doesn't respond as well when I push the button on it and I find myself having to press it down quite firmly today. It's still under warranty, so I guess I will take it to them and get it replaced, but has anyone eles experienced this? It's rather annoying. Maybe I'm heavy handed on the buttons...who knows?

Whats up tech dudes...

I want to make like an animation type thing from loads of photos and put some music over it.

Something a bit like this... http://www.jamesworrell.net.temp.livebooks.com/sources/frontsite/display_file.php?file=slideshow/21/dayinthelife.mov

Can someone recommend me a program to do that with?

Im fairly computer literate and can get hold of pretty much anything I think.

Peace

Some bullshit happened with my computer yesterday. I ended up having to format it (xp).

I lost everything on that drive, including music and itunes. I kept a backup of my music.

My question....what will happen when I install itunes and plug my ipod in? Will it go crazy and complain? Do I have to loadit from scratch?

Also, I'm open to suggestions for alternatives to itunes.

Question! Please help!

My computer has all of a sudden been taking an obscene amount of time to startup (10+ minutes.)

Like it takes a long time to load when I log onto my user account, and it just started happening yesterday. I've cleared the C: drive of unwanted files, didn't help.

But! When it's taking forever and I reboot then log in it goes normal, but lets say i log off right now and log back on it will take a long time.

Someone please help! Thank you. I have windows XP and am horrible with computers.

My first thought is that you might need to open her up and blow some compressed air in there. your RAM might be dying off or even just dirty. This could be any number of things, but i'd start off by dusting the inside and reseating the RAM.

^^

1. Download and run Ccleaner, clear out all your temporary files if you haven't already done so.

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

2. Defrag your PC.

3. If it just happened yesterday maybe do a system restore to a few days ago and see if that helps

4. Go to the dog favela and find the Lord.

*edit - Wouldn't hurt to run some scans for malware as eartoground said.

I scanned with Vipre. I have Vipre and Norman, so maybe they're working against eachother?

I actually have Vista.. not XP... oops hahah and defrag is automatically set to run once a week.

I have an Athlon 7750 Dual Core processor with 4GB of RAM.. It's about 9 months old.

CCleaner didn't do anything to help.. BUT!!

As I restarted again.. I let it sit for about 15 minutes without logging in and it was slow when i eventually did log in.. when it should have been fast... so it's a time thing as far as when it bogs down. I don't know if that will help. It's like something HUGE is trying to open with all the other programs, because after 5-10 minutes it works just like normal.

System Restore or can of air time?
