Anyways, let me get to the question: Is that an IMAX only movie or is it one of those movies that are in selected cities? No. It was a normal picture. I believe it catered to the smaller theatres though. Like the ones who mostly show independent films and the like. It really was a great movie though it kinda dragged in the middle. Being a competitive cyclist myself, I was more attracted to it than others might be. As for the storyline... I guess it's about a small boy who's love for Europes cycling heros drives his ambition to become one himself. He goes from being a pudgy little boy to this emaciated upper body with out of proportion muscular legged man that dreams of competing in the Tour De France. His years of passion and dedication are supported by his mother who constantly "sags" behind him on his training rides and races to give him encouragement and support. His dream comes true and he race in the Tour De France but when he reaches the mountains the stronger riders drop him and many others. He's eventually kidnapped by some goons for gambling purposes. His mother spends the rest of the movie trying to rescue him. What makes it amazing is the lack of vocal dialogue. Most of the movie is just imagery. And if you're a cyclist in the know... a lot of the imagery is pretty cool. It would have to be out on DVD by now. It came out before Kill Bill and that's out on DVD... or at least they're saying it is on the radio.
Spike
If you can't find it under the name of "Triplets of Belleville", the original name it was released under was Belleville Rendezvous. I'm pretty sure it's on DVD by now.
Al Green
itll be available on dvd on the 4th of May. and when it comes out..you can party with it on the 5th and celebrate mexican independence. i expect this animation studio is only going to do better work after this... im guessing another feature will be out in 2 yrs. Poop Man Bob
Russian criminal tattoos. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/1.jpg'> Chronicler of Russian crime When Danzig Baldaev (pictured, sitting) was a boy his father, an eminent Buryat ethnographer, was denounced as an “enemy of the people” by the Soviet authorities. Danzig was later sent to work as a prison guard. His life’s work, the Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia, has just been published by Steidl/Fuel. Photos by Sergei Vasiliev. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/2.jpg'> A cry from the gulag This anti-Soviet tattoo was found on a prisoner arrested for petty hooliganism in Leningrad in 1963. It says: “The convicts of the gulag are the new nation of the USSR bred by the Marxist devils”. Anti-Semitism, as represented by the Star of David, crops up frequently in Russian criminal tattoos. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/3.jpg'> Women of colour Many female criminals also tattooed themselves, partly as a rebellious reaction to the establishment and partly to distinguish themselves as what are known as vory v zakone (thieves in law). These women were photographed at a corrective labour colony at Kungur, near Perm. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/4.jpg'> Women of colour Many female criminals also tattooed themselves, partly as a rebellious reaction to the establishment and partly to distinguish themselves as what are known as vory v zakone (thieves in law). These women were photographed at a corrective labour colony at Kungur, near Perm. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/6.jpg'> A bit of political satire This tattoo, dating from the early 1990s, was found on a man twice convicted for hooliganism. It says: “Boris, you’re right! I have always grasped and still grasp my glass with firm and steady hands! I’m not a runt like Mishka Gorbachev, who only drinks ryazhenka (a yoghurt drink).” The slogan on Gorbachev's head reads “Enemy of drunkenness". http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/7.jpg'> In praise of Boris This political caricature was found on a prisoner who had fought for the Russian Army in Chechnya between 1994 and 1996. It is not clear if the wording is genuine or sarcastic. It reads: “Giant of Soviet thought, down the hatch, cheering Kremlin heart drops, for victory over Chechnya!!!” http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/8.jpg'> Glory to the party! Long after the collapse of the Soviet Union many inmates and former prisoners were still walking around with tattoos berating or ridiculing the state. This one, found on a man in the city morgue at St Petersburg in 1997, says Glory to the CPSU (Communist Party of the Soviet Union). The man had been convicted of pulling down banners during the anniversary of the October 1917 revolution. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/04/europe_russian_criminal_tattoos/img/9.jpg'> God of crime The Russian word for God - Bog - is also an acronym used by criminals. It means "I shall rob again".
Al Green
hey casek.. im wondering a few things.. what are you building your meshes in? can you export as vectors? like.. with a swift3d plugin.. or a similar type of plug in.. because my guess looks like your taking a polygon mesh image bringing it into photoshoppe and applying the color blocks and shadows.. if this is the case it doesnt seem integrated enough... i really like the feel too.. there was an image posted on here a while back.. it was a really long tall image with an olive background and red/dark grey shapes and forms running down it.. as far as i could tell this was some rendered shapes output and assembled as vectors in illustrator or something.. anyways that image seems to me has the feel im talking about.. does anyone remember the image im talking about? i think tyler durden posted it.. and i remember being real hype on the website for a hot minute. anyways.. id like to know a little bit more about how youre doing it.. im looking to start working on some 3d models but i need a 3d program for Mac.. if anyone has any hook ups id super appreciate it. ...this thread is really taking off i have to thank you all for contributing and making it something to check regularly for needed doses of inspiration...
