I might be just too sick of black and white right now, but I didn't like the way they look totally desaturated. However, I did like the way they looked with a very low saturation, and that contributes to the darkness of the photo. That may have been what you meant in the first place, but they are better now I think. Keeps the subject matter grim but the muted colors do it well. Almost gives it a holga vinetting effect---but better. I like the first image more.
