finished the Tragedy of Liberation now onto part ii of the trilogy: Mao's Great Famine good history books, but can be a bit of a slog. definitely learning a lot. and Great Famine was the perfect book to have while I was trying to fly home in the blizzard.. really puts problems into perspective when you're reading about people killing their babies, selling their children, and eating tree bark just to survive

I wanted to travel the world since I was a kid and as an adult I started doing it I've been a lot of places and I will be moving away from the US, knowing full well hoiw many other great places there are. we're on a 5 year plan.. roughly whenever our dogs get old and die. the US is most definitely in decline, and frankly I don't expect it to improve for anyone except the richest among us.

^indeed. some say what's going on in Syria (until russia got involved) is a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia. they have seriously conflicting interests. Egypt also has a very complicated relationship with the kingdom as well as qatar. you definitely cannot lump all those countries together. and like lumping all christians together, with over as billion muslims you have a shitload of people all thinking in various ways, some highly varied. the other issue is that i'm not sure how many Syrians would even want to go to places like SA, qatar or Iran.
